Position: Senior Mechanical Design Engineering Supervisor

Overview:
A leading engineering company in the southeast of Ireland is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineering Supervisor to lead and strengthen its mechanical design department. This position plays a pivotal role in the development of bespoke automation solutions for clients in industries such as packaging, filling systems, and special-purpose machinery.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in mechanical design engineering, team leadership, and delivering high-quality design solutions in line with project, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the mechanical design function, including research and development, and early-stage concept generation.
* Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of internal systems to meet client, regulatory, and legislative standards.
* Manage design risk through structured assessment and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.
* Drive departmental productivity and maintain high engineering standards through effective team leadership and process oversight.
* Ensure rigorous quality control across all design outputs and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
* Plan and prioritize team tasks in alignment with approved methodologies and project timelines.
* Co-lead SCRUM-based project planning sessions and ensure consistent progress reporting.
* Conduct and oversee comprehensive risk assessments in line with health and safety regulations.
* Ensure all design work aligns with the company’s engineering standards, values, and objectives.
* Provide accurate technical input during the sales and estimation phase to support commercial teams.
* Lead and manage continuous improvement initiatives within the design team.
* Conduct internal and external design reviews and ensure project alignment at every stage.
* Administer and maintain the Product Data Management (PDM) system.
* Stay current with industry innovations, supply chain technologies, and best practices.
* Facilitate cross-disciplinary design reviews to enhance technical collaboration and output quality.
* Perform CE marking risk assessments using approved templates and procedures.
* Promote a design philosophy focused on safety, maintainability, efficiency, and performance.
* Manage technical and commercial risks in accordance with company standards and procedures.
* Maintain ongoing client communication throughout the design and post-delivery phases to ensure customer satisfaction.
Candidate Profile:
* Proven leadership experience within a mechanical design engineering environment, ideally in automation or special-purpose machinery.
* Strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
* Detail-oriented, process-driven, and capable of leading cross-functional teams.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Minimum of 5 years in a senior mechanical design role within a relevant industry.
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
* Demonstrated capability in generating innovative design concepts and technical solutions.
* Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including system sizing, tolerancing, and reliability engineering.
* Working knowledge of machinery safety requirements and regulatory compliance.
* Effective time and task management with the ability to prioritize under pressure.
