A senior Lead DeltaV Engineer is required on a contract basis to lead the design, implementation, support, and optimisation of Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS) within a regulated manufacturing environment. This role provides hands‑on technical leadership across site automation activities and supports both ongoing operations and capital projects.
The successful contractor will act as the site technical authority for DeltaV systems, working closely with operations, quality, validation, IT, and global engineering teams to ensure robust, compliant, and reliable automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Act as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Emerson DeltaV DCS platforms, ensuring system availability, performance, and compliance.
Lead complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions for automation issues.
Design and implement process control strategies to support manufacturing operations, technology transfers, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure DeltaV-related activities comply with regulatory and quality standards, including cGMP, GAMP 5, FDA, and 21 CFR Part 11.
Manage and execute change control and configuration management activities for DeltaV systems.
Project Delivery & Site Support
Deliver site automation projects from requirements definition through design, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and validation.
Support new equipment integration, system upgrades, and facility expansions in collaboration with cross‑functional project teams.
Work closely with manufacturing, quality, validation, and IT stakeholders to deliver integrated automation solutions.
Compliance & Lifecycle Support
Maintain DeltaV systems in a validated state through appropriate documentation, testing, and lifecycle procedures.
Support audit readiness and participate in internal and external inspections as required.
Provide input into lifecycle planning, including hardware/software upgrades, patching strategies, and obsolescence mitigation.
Key Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years’ experience in process automation with strong hands‑on expertise in Emerson DeltaV DCS within pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Proven experience acting as a technical lead or SME on DeltaV systems.
Strong knowledge of cGMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and computer system validation.
Hands‑on experience with batch automation, S88 standards, and process control strategy development.
Ability to work autonomously and integrate quickly into established site teams.
