Assistant Project Manager – Preconstruction
The Assistant Project Manager – Preconstruction supports the successful planning, coordination, and mobilisation of utility‑scale solar PV projects during the tendering and preconstruction phases. The role exists to ensure tenders are prepared accurately and efficiently, supplier and design information is effectively coordinated, and awarded projects are fully prepared for seamless handover to construction and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
Tender & Preconstruction Support
Assist in the preparation of tender submissions for utility-scale solar PV projects
Support development of Bills of Quantities (BOQs) aligned with project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
Coordinate inputs from engineering, procurement, and commercial teams
Prepare and manage tender documentation, ensuring completeness and consistency
Supplier & Procurement Coordination
Issue and manage Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to suppliers and subcontractors
Compile and analyse supplier returns (pricing, technical compliance, lead times)
Support development of procurement strategies for key packages (civil, electrical, mechanical)
Maintain supplier databases and benchmark pricing across projects
Design Coordination
Track and coordinate design deliverables (civil, electrical, structural)
Maintain drawing registers and ensure latest revisions are controlled
Liaise with external consultants and internal engineering teams
Identify and track design risks or gaps during tender stage
Cost & Commercial Support
Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and pricing build-ups
Track budget vs quoted costs during tender stage
Support commercial reviews and value engineering exercises
Ensure alignment between technical scope and pricing
Project Handover & Mobilisation
Support preparation of handover packs for construction teams, including:
Scope definitions
Procurement schedules
Key technical documentation
Assist in developing initial project programmes and sequencing
Ensure all relevant information is transferred clearly to delivery teams
Documentation & Process Management
Maintain structured documentation systems for tenders and projects
Ensure all records are accurate, traceable, and aligned with company processes
Support implementation of procurement and cost control systems (e.g. SAP alignment)
Requirements
Educational Background
Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or related discipline
Relevant industry certifications or training in construction, procurement, or project coordination advantageous
Professional Knowledge and Experience
2–5 years’ experience in construction, engineering, or infrastructure projects
Experience in preconstruction, tendering, or project coordination
Strong understanding of: o Construction methodologies (civil and/or electrical) o Procurement processes
Experience in renewable energy projects (solar PV, BESS, or similar) desirable
Familiarity with Irish construction standards and practices desirable
Experience working with: o WBS structures o Cost control systems o ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
Understanding of grid-connected projects (MV/HV systems) desirable
