Role Overview:
The purpose of this role is to provide support services within Limerick City and County Council's Limerick Homeless Action Team. The role involves assisting clients in accessing advice and information regarding their eligibility for emergency homeless services.
What You Will Do:
1. Make and take appointments, interview, and assess clients seeking homeless services, either by appointment or through unscheduled visits at the public counter.
2. Provide assessment and advice to homeless individuals.
3. Participate in the Homeless Action Team as necessary.
4. Assist clients in sourcing suitable private rented accommodation.
5. Work with clients in emergency facilities to secure long-term accommodation and prevent prolonged stays in emergency settings.
6. Help clients settle into accommodation and inform them about available external services.
7. Handle referrals via the interdisciplinary referral protocol.
8. Assist eligible persons with social housing applications, providing information and support.
9. Investigate cases thoroughly, maintaining links with authorities, Gardaí, and other agencies.
10. Increase access to health and social services for homeless individuals.
11. Create and maintain client files and records.
12. Provide monthly reports on caseloads and transition plans to the Coordinator.
13. Adopt a client-centered approach, promoting autonomy and independence.
14. Establish links with local services and community groups; collaborate with housing providers where appropriate.
15. Manage an allocated caseload, adhering to care and case management protocols.
16. Respond appropriately to child protection and welfare concerns.
17. Collaborate effectively with team members and adhere to organizational policies in personnel, finance, administration, research, development, education, public awareness, and services.
18. Follow policies such as Customer Complaints, Health and Safety, and Personnel Policies.
19. Work under supervision, participating in regular supervision sessions.
20. Familiarize with and comply with all relevant policies, including Child Protection and Confidentiality.
21. Maintain accurate records and statistics as per policy.
22. Identify and report health, safety, and welfare risks in the workplace.
23. Attend team and agency meetings as required.
24. Participate in relevant training and development courses.
25. Undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned in consultation with the Coordinator.
What You Will Need:
* A relevant third-level qualification (degree) in social care, psychology, sociology, or related fields.
* Experience working in a social care setting.
* Experience with child protection and welfare responsibilities.
* Experience in assessments, including risk assessments.
* Experience developing support plans and conducting reviews.
* Ability to handle challenging behavior.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Flexibility in role execution.
* Willingness to develop professionally through supervision.
* (Desirable) Advocacy experience for similar client groups.
* (Desirable) Report writing skills.
* (Desirable) IT skills.
