The Role
We are seeking a Data Analyst/Business Intelligence Developer to work within multi-disciplinary teams, generating unique insights into disparate datasets that inform strategic decision making.
You will work as part of a small, cross organizational team of data specialists to deliver a data products and data insights for our clients. You will become a key contributor to projects providing Data Governance and Infrastructure support. You will have access to
You will liaise with Data Analysts, Scientists and Information Services personnel to coordinate data and database-related inputs and generate reports and visualisation tools that offer insights into large temporal and geospatial datasets.
You will use Microsoft tools such as SQL Server, PowerBI and Fabric to develop database models and related data feeds, ETL processes, and database queries in support of the new information products being developed by Data Analysts.
The BI Developer will ensure that the data required for the information products is accurate, up-to-date and available for use in analysis tools.
You will work closely with Geospatial experts and explore the optimum ways to link geographic information systems and Business Intelligence tools to generate innovative ways to support business decision making.
Your Impact
In this role you will make a meaningful impact by driving the following outcomes:
Collaborating with operational, scientific and research teams to develop data processing, reporting and information products, primarily using SQL and associated data reporting and processing tools.
Providing data technical guidance in support of data processing, data management, and report publication.
Ensuring that data management quality and software development policies and industry standard software development processes are applied, including related process documentation and source control procedures.
Working with the Information Services & Development team to ensure that database(s) and related systems and processes are well defined, maintained and governed.
Working with teams to implement improvements to data management and information delivery systems.
Providing ongoing knowledge transfer to colleagues and teams across the business.
You’ll need at least 5 years’ experience of working with data to ensure related data services are of high quality and meet technical and business requirements, with defined data process quality.
This experience must include but is not limited to:
* Working with senior managers and / or relevant domain experts to define requirements for data processing and access, including for ETL, for data quality control and for data reporting and access requirements.
* Developing reports, dashboards or other data visualisation and access services using reporting and analysis tools such as MS PowerBI, MS SQL Server, MS Fabric, Reporting Services, and / or Jupyter notebooks.
* Extensive use of the SQL across relational database models and OBDC interfaces; SQL Server, PyODBC, etc.
* Working with enterprise databases, such as SQL Server, including developing database models, populating relevant data and developing stored procedures.
* Use of scripting languages, including Python, JavaScript and/or R, to manage, manipulate and visualise data.
* Experience with source control of scripts using tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub and a structured testing and release process.
* Experience with Safe Software FME, Microsoft Fusion, Microsoft PowerApps, Microsoft Fabric, or equivalents, is an advantage.
