About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Person to join our busy hardware and DIY business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, being outdoors, and helping customers get what they need safely and efficiently.
You'll be responsible for maintaining the yard area, handling stock, and assisting customers with loading and product enquiries.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain a tidy, organised, and safe yard area
* Load and unload lorries in a safe and timely manner
* Load and unload deliveries and customer vehicles
* Ensuring products are checked, accounted for and loaded correctly
* Assist customers with selecting and collecting materials
* Operate forklifts or other yard equipment (if licensed)
* Receive, check, and store incoming stock
* Follow all health & safety procedures
* Adherence to all Society policies & procedures, Health & Safety procedures and reporting of any hazards to the Yard Manager
What We're Looking For
* Physically fit and capable of manual handling
* Reliable, punctual, and safety‑conscious
* Friendly attitude with good customer service skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Full clean drivers licence is required
* Forklift licence (preferred but not essential)
* Previous experience in hardware, trade, or yard work is an advantage
