Role: Designer (Design Engineer/Product Engineer) Location: Limerick Job Type: Permanent /Full time Start Date: As soon as possible Company Overview Client is a leading contract injection moulding and precision engineering company, serving global OEMs in the automotive, medical device, aviation, aerospace, industrial, and packaging sectors since 2007. They offer end-to-end solutions including custom machine building, toolmaking, recycling, and advanced energy management. Key Responsibilities * Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Develop innovative component and tooling designs for injection moulding, automation, and machine building projects, ensuring seamless integration with automated systems and manufacturing processes. * Collaborative Project Delivery: Engage with clients, project managers, and cross-functional teams to capture requirements, develop concepts, and deliver solutions that meet performance, regulatory, and cost objectives. * CAD/CAM & 3D Modelling: Create detailed 2D and 3D models and manufacturing drawings using CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks), and manage digital files throughout the product lifecycle. * Procurement & Bill of Materials Management: Manage Bills of Materials (BOM's) in SolidWorks, ensuring accurate documentation. Oversee procurement using the internal ERP system, handling sourcing, supplier coordination, purchase orders (POs), and related documentation. * Rapid Prototyping: Utilise in-house 3D printing and scanning facilities for rapid prototyping, design validation, and iterative development. * Material & Process Selection: Specify appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for each project, balancing durability, efficiency, and sustainability requirements. * Tooling & Automation: Contribute to the design and optimisation of injection moulds, custom jigs, fixtures, and automation equipment for high-precision, high-volume production. * Quality & Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with TPS's rigorous quality standards and relevant industry certifications (ISO 13485, ISO 14001, IATF 16949 and AS9100), supporting documentation and traceability as required. * Continuous Improvement: Participate in process innovation, digitalisation, and R&D projects to enhance manufacturing efficiency, sustainability, and product quality. Candidate Profile Essential Qualifications & Experience: * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or related discipline OR, * At least 5 to 10 years of equivalent experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing/engineering environment (injection moulding, automation, or related sector preferred). * Demonstrable proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks essential). * Experience with DFM principles, rapid prototyping, and hands-on involvement in product development cycles. * Strong understanding of materials (plastics, metals) and manufacturing processes (injection moulding, CNC machining, automation). * Experience managing Bills of Materials (BOM's) and procurement processes using ERP systems. * Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills, with a client-centric and solution-oriented approach. * High attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to quality and innovation. Desirable: * Experience in regulated sectors (medical devices, automotive, aerospace). * Knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14001, IATF 16949, AS9100 standards. * Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and digital process innovation. * Interest in sustainability and circular economy practices.
