About the Role:
Vision Ireland is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Rehabilitation Specialist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to empower individuals with sight loss, helping them gain the skills needed for independent living and employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Our ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth assessments to evaluate the impact of vision loss on daily living and employment prospects. They will develop and implement personalized rehabilitation plans, tailored to the unique needs of each learner. Additionally, they will provide practical skills training to promote independent living, mobility, and workplace readiness.
Core Training Areas:
The successful candidate will focus on:
* Independent Living Skills: Supporting learners in self-care, home management, and daily tasks.
* Maximizing Residual Vision: Teaching strategies for optimizing remaining sight through adaptive techniques.
* Compensatory Skills: Training individuals in alternative techniques for reading, writing, and communication.
* Assistive Technology & Communication: Introducing and training learners in screen readers, magnification tools, Braille, and alternative formats.
* Orientation & Mobility (O&M): Supporting learners in safe and independent travel, including electronic travel aids and GPS applications.
* Employment & Education Access: Providing guidance on workplace adjustments, interview preparation, and transitioning into education/training.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) or equivalent.
* Experience in teaching, rehabilitation, or disability services, with a focus on adult learners.
* Ability to work independently while managing a caseload.
* Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to person-centred training.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and assistive technologies.
