We are seeking an experienced Associate Director of R&D Engineering to lead global development and sustaining engineering for medical device mechanical products, while serving as the R&D site lead in Ireland. This is a senior leadership job, overseeing a 20+ member team and driving innovation across product lifecycles in the medical device sector. This is a permanent position based in South Dublin with Hybrid working option available.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering team for injection device R&D.
* Drive project prioritization aligned with business and commercial strategies.
* Build and strengthen core engineering and science capabilities, including V&V, DFMA, and DHF compliance.
* Partner with Marketing, Operations, and Regulatory to deliver continuous product improvements and new developments.
* Mentor and grow future leaders, ensuring strong talent development and retention.
* Foster an innovative, collaborative, resilient culture with ambition for technician excellence, results and accountability.
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Plastics Engineering or equivalent (advanced degree preferred).
* 10+ years’ experience in medical device engineering, injection devices, is highly desirable.
* 5+ years’ leadership experience managing diverse engineering teams.
* Strong track record in product development, regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO), and high-volume manufacturing environments.
* Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and Design for manufacturability is highly desirable.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Highly collaborative, with advanced technical and managerial judgment.
* Self-driven, detail-oriented, and results-focused.
* Ability to travel internationally (25%+).
