Staff Nurse – Medically Supervised Injecting Facility (MSIF)
Merchants Quay Ireland (MQI) opened Ireland’s first Medically Supervised Injection Facility (MSIF) in December 2024. As a Registered Nurse you will supervise clients before, during and after injecting episodes, providing trauma‑informed care and harm‑reduction services.
Responsibilities
* Optimise health and welfare by promoting harm reduction and reducing negative effects associated with drug use.
* Operate in a trauma‑informed manner, upholding dignity and developing positive rapport with clients.
* Foster social inclusion and client participation in MSIF operation.
* Observe and monitor client wellbeing throughout visits (reception, injection room, aftercare).
* Assist during client emergencies, following Clinical Nurse Manager’s direction.
* Intervene in drug overdose events, administering oxygen or naloxone as required.
* Engage with emergency services as needed.
* Provide primary nursing healthcare services, including wound care.
* Support Primary Care Doctor as required.
* Promote practices preventing client overdoses and train safer injecting practices.
Collaboration and Teamwork
* Work with colleagues and managers across all services in Riverbank to achieve better outcomes.
* Foster trauma‑informed approach to service delivery.
* Support clients to identify health and welfare needs and build positive links with external services.
* Build positive relationships with clients and peer representatives, promoting client voice and empowerment.
* Foster a safe therapeutic environment for staff, clients and visitors.
Record Keeping
* Ensure compliance with quality management systems.
* Participate in clinical quality improvement and research activities.
* Record client observations on MSIF forms and database.
* Complete incident reports and health and safety logs timely.
Person Specification (Ideal Candidate)
* Registered under the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
* Third Level Nursing qualification.
* Minimum 2 years post‑qualification experience.
* Minimum 1 year experience in a low threshold environment.
* Understanding of substance misuse, mental health and trauma‑informed services.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including people with lived experience.
* Strong passion for MQI’s mission and vision.
* IT skills, including MS Office and CRM data analysis.
Working Hours
37.5 hours per week Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, with on‑call rota as required.
Salary
Starting at €39,105 to €42,450 (part‑time pro‑rata).
Contract
12‑month Fixed Term Contract.
