The Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) in Palliative Care is a role which has emerged from the Slaintecare Project entitled Rehabilitative Palliative Care which was sponsored by Prof. Karen Ryan. This role is integral to the holistic care of patients under the care of the Palliative Care Team. The post-holder will be responsible for the provision of a specialised inpatient and outpatient (where applicable) occupational therapy service for patients in receipt of palliative care including cancer services, older persons, COPD, neurology. The OT will form strong links with community teams and specialist palliative care team services throughout Ireland. Clinical input may be required at times into the wider occupational therapy service if service demands change and to support and provide supervision to basic grade occupational therapists working in the service.
