Murphy is recruiting anMechanical Estimatorto support our expanding Water & Wastewater portfolio, delivering full design‑to‑operation solutions for Uisce Éireann, Northern Ireland Water and other key clients, underpinned by our commitment to delivering safely, responsibly and to the highest standards.What You Will Be DoingDevelop detailed and accurate estimates for mechanical engineering works based on outline drawings and specificationsEnsure that estimates reflect a realistic level of risk and adhere to company guidelines and industry standardsEngage in the design development process to evaluate buildability, material selection, innovative solutions, and cost-effectivenessProvide early-stage pricing information during tendering to assist in optioneering and budgeting, ensuring that the most cost-effective solutions are proposedEnsure all procedures, including risk management and governance processes, are followed, thoroughly documented, and properly authorisedContribute to the development of Tender Preparation and Tender Construction programmesCollaborate with other functions to prepare a detailed staff schedule for tenders, using insights from successful projectsWork with central and regional buyers to prepare a procurement plan, identifying suppliers and subcontractors, and negotiating terms, conditions, and discount levelsPrepare and send out enquiries to obtain competitive quotations for mechanical engineering resources, particularly materials and subcontractorsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of technical developments and new methods within the mechanical engineering industryApply this knowledge to enhance the accuracy and competitiveness of estimatesDevelop financial models for framework submissions, including setting appropriate staff rates and ensuring these are aligned with project budgetsUtilise the standardised cost coding system to enable meaningful feedback and future cost capture, ensuring consistency and accuracy in financial trackingWho We Are Looking ForMinimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within the water, wastewater, or construction sectorsProven track record in preparing detailed and accurate mechanical estimatesStrong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detailExcellent knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and construction methodsProficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office SuiteStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teamsAbility to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlinesWhat You'll Get In Return27 days holiday, plus bank holidays with the option to buy an additional 2 days holiday each year, holidays increase with length of serviceDiscretionary annual bonus and annual salary reviewAbove market rate contributory pension schemeLife assurance, health screening and enhanced sick payGenerous Private Healthcare AllowanceEnhanced maternity and paternity pay and a maternity returners bonusExtra 2 days holiday for all employees getting married and a wedding bonusDedicated and continued investment in your professional developmentOther Murphy benefits include retail discounts, discounted gym memberships, cycle to work scheme etcAbout MurphyMurphy is formally recognised as a sector leading employer, Platinum Investors In People accredited.
