Industrial Electrical Engineer Utilities (Water & Wastewater) Role Overview We are seeking a skilled and motivated Industrial Electrical Engineer to support electrical inspection, maintenance, and improvement works across utility infrastructure within the water and wastewater sector.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring electrical systems, control panels, and associated equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
This position requires strong experience working in industrial environments such as water treatment plants, pumping stations, and wastewater facilities, along with a solid understanding of electrical control systems and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities Carry out electrical inspections, testing, and maintenance of industrial electrical systems within water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Inspect and assess electrical panels, motor control centres (MCCs), instrumentation panels, and control systems.
Perform fault finding, diagnostics, and corrective maintenance on electrical and control equipment.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations, risk assessments, and industry best practice.
Review electrical drawings, schematics, and panel layouts to support maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
Prepare detailed inspection reports, technical documentation, and maintenance records following site visits.
Coordinate with site managers, operations teams, and project stakeholders to plan and execute works.
Support commissioning, upgrades, and system improvements where required.
Ensure all tools, equipment, and PPE are maintained in safe working condition.
Requirements Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 35 years experience in industrial electrical systems, preferably within the utilities, water, or wastewater sector.
Strong understanding of industrial control systems, MCCs, instrumentation, and electrical distribution systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel drawings.
Knowledge of relevant electrical standards, safety procedures, and compliance requirements.
Experience working in operational treatment plants or similar industrial environments is highly desirable.
Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites.
Good communication and reporting skills.
Desirable Experience Experience working on water treatment plants, wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, or utility infrastructure.
Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLC controls, and instrumentation systems.
Experience supporting panel inspections, upgrades, or asset management programmes.
