About The Role
The Clinical Nurse Manager I Day Ward is a critical position in the healthcare team, requiring strong leadership and clinical expertise. As a key member of the point of care team, you will lead the clinical management of the ambulatory day ward in collaboration with the CNMII.
The 29-bedded unit specializes in a range of day case procedures in general surgery and diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy, dental, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, urology, and general surgery.
As a Clinical Nurse Manager I, you will play a pivotal role in upholding the UPMC values in the clinical setting, ensuring accessible world-class care that puts patients first.
You will work closely with the CNMII and other members of the inter-professional team to ensure efficient and effective processes, promote a nurse-led service, and provide high-quality patient care.
This role requires an enthusiastic and motivated individual who can lead and manage a team of nurses, demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver safe and effective care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist the CNMII in providing patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using evidence-based care planning.
2. Provide high-level professional and clinical leadership to the point of care staff.
3. Work with the CNMII to coordinate assessment, planning, delivery, and review of service user care by all staff in designated areas.
4. Ensure safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI.
5. Collaborate with service users, family carers, and other staff in treatment/care.
6. Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the department.
7. Ensure all staff are familiar with the use and care of equipment and maintain it in good working condition.
8. Guarantee strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents.
9. Implement HR policies to maintain the safety and well-being of patients, relatives, and staff.
10. Ensure understanding and compliance with statutory rules, guidelines, and legislations.
Requirements
* Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
* A minimum of three years' experience as a staff nurse in an acute hospital setting is required.
* Functionally able to discharge the responsibilities of the role as outlined in this job specification.
* Desirable: At least one year's experience in a management position in a surgical setting is desirable but not essential.
* It is desirable to have completed a recognized post-registration course in nurse management.
* Have a Lean Six Sigma qualification or be prepared to participate and complete this course.
* Display evidence of continuing professional development.
* Understand the core values of UPMC Whitfield and UPMC Ireland.
* Have excellent communication skills.
* Demonstrate awareness of UPMC Ireland HR policies and procedures.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft packages.
* Demonstrate the ability to develop, lead, and complete projects within the continuous improvement program in UPMC Whitfield Hospital using Lean methodology.
