The Role
The Technical Trainer will be responsible for the design, delivery, and continuous development of technical training programmes for mechanics across all Harris Group brands. The role ensures that technicians maintain the highest standards of technical competence, diagnostic capability, and manufacturer compliance, supporting improved workshop efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery & Development
* Deliver high-quality technical training to mechanics and apprentices across all Harris Group brands
* Provide classroom-based, hands-on, and on-the-job training aligned with manufacturer standards
* Develop and maintain structured training programmes covering mechanical, electrical, electronic, diagnostic, and safety topics
* Adapt training content to suit varying skill levels, from apprentice to master technician
Brand & Manufacturer Compliance
* Ensure all technical training meets manufacturer, regulatory, and accreditation requirements
* Liaise with manufacturers, importers, and external training providers to stay current with product updates and technical bulletins
* Support certification, accreditation, and audit requirements across the group
Skills Assessment & Continuous Improvement
* Assess technician skill levels and identify training gaps
* Support the development of individual and team training plans
* Monitor training effectiveness and workshop performance metrics following training delivery
* Promote best practice, standardised repair methods, and correct diagnostic processes
Technical Support & Knowledge Sharing
* Act as a technical escalation point for complex faults and diagnostic challenges
* Support workshop managers and foremen with technical guidance and problem-solving
* Assist with the introduction of new models, technologies, tools, and systems
* Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, training materials, and learning resources
Health, Safety & Quality
* Promote safe working practices and compliance with all health & safety requirements
* Ensure training environments and equipment are safe, organised, and fit for purpose
* Embed a culture of quality, first-time-fix, and continuous learning
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
* Significant experience as a qualified automotive / commercial vehicle technician
* Strong diagnostic capability across mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
* Experience working across multiple brands or product ranges
* Proven ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively
* Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
* Full clean driving licence
Desirable
* Previous experience in a technical training, coaching, or mentoring role
* Recognised training or instructional qualification (e.g. Train the Trainer, FETAC, City & Guilds, OEM trainer certification)
* Experience with emerging technologies (EV, hybrid, ADAS, telematics, emissions systems)
* Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) or digital training platforms

Working Hours
Full-time role
* Monday to Friday, with flexibility for occasional travel or off-site training requirements
