Social Care Worker – The Bridge, Kilcullen, Co Kildare

Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for a Social Care Worker. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge.

Purpose of Post

The position requires a high degree of understanding and commitment to the residents and to Camphill Communities of Ireland. The prime consideration at all times must be for the welfare and wellbeing of the residents. This position requires a high degree of professionalism. Confidentiality with regard to residents and staff is most important.

The Social Care Worker must have the ability to work with people with an intellectual disability and must believe that the person has the right to live and participate in the community equally with other people. The Social Care Worker, in co-operation with the Shift Lead and the Person In Charge will be responsible for the overall growth and direction of the residents, working within the ethos of CCoI.

The person appointed must be highly responsible and reliable, be competent in household management and have the ability to create and maintain a homely and supportive environment. The position requires a maturity enabling the person to resolve conflict and can understand and empower people with sometimes quite divergent points of view.

The person appointed should be flexible in their approach to service provision and should have the ability to lead and work as a member of a team. They will be required to take an active part in ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the Service reflect the ethos and vision of CCoI and that all staff are meeting the needs of the individuals supported by the Service. They will be required, whilst setting a personal example by attitude, conduct, practice and leadership style to carry out the duties of the post outlined hereafter.

Responsibilities

Advocacy & Rights

* Respect each person who uses the services as an equal citizen.
* Uphold and respect the human, legal and constitutional rights of each person who uses the service, recognising their individuality and equality, and empowering them to grow, thereby achieving the highest possible level of personal autonomy.
* Facilitate, encourage and develop the choice and decision-making skills of people who use the services.
* Facilitate, encourage and develop the self-advocacy skills of and opportunities for involvement in advocacy for people who use services.
* Enable each individual supported by the services to pursue and maintain their individual hobbies and interests.
* Foster, encourage and develop the self-help and social skills of each individual supported by the services so as to achieve the greatest degree of autonomy possible.
* Facilitate each individual supported by the services to actively participate and integrate into the community, through the use of generic community facilities.

Person Centred Support for Living

* Ensure a person centred approach to service delivery.
* Support people who use the service with aspects of individual and group service responses including: occupation and leisure activities; communication; behaviour support plans; independent living skills; social integration and the use of community facilities; personal care; personal development.
* Act as a Key Worker for specific individuals and, in consultation with the individual, lead in developing and implementing person centred plans and ensure needs are addressed; participate in residents reviews as required.
* Coordinate and support medical appointments and ensure a healthy and nutritious diet is offered, taking individual choice into account.
* Develop and implement appropriate training, leisure, social, and personal activities for individuals within the service area.
* Facilitate individuals to actively participate and integrate into the community, through the use of generic community facilities.
* Ensure behaviour support plans from the Multidisciplinary Team are carried out and adhered to.
* Promote the self-help and social skills of individuals to achieve autonomy.
* Support individuals with personal hygiene and appearance standards, including participation in personal hygiene programmes.
* Provide physical and personal support as required (including moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, communication, dressing, bathing, toileting, eating, sleep support, skin care, first aid, and health promotion).
* Encourage participation in recreational and leisure activities and coordinate transport needs as required.
* Assist residents to manage finances in line with the Residents Finance Policy and support meal preparation as required.
* Support religious and pastoral needs where applicable.
* Administer prescribed medications and maintain required records.
* Support day-to-day running of the household and ensure practices are person-centred and value-based.

Management and Leadership

* Ensure adherence to legislative, CCoI policies and regulatory requirements (Health & Safety Act and HIQA standards) through monitoring, inspection and audit.
* Maintain up-to-date records for individuals and ensure accuracy of reports, timesheets and financial statements.
* Maintain complete and accurate records (needs assessments, risk assessments, incidents, notifiable events, file notes, communication plans, behavioural management support, health action plans, medication management, and financial records).
* Report concerns immediately to the Person in Charge (PIC).
* Coordinate house team schedules and ensure adequate cover.
* Coordinate staff and volunteers, assist in induction and training, and contribute to a positive team environment.
* Familiarity with and adherence to CCoI policies, procedures and codes of practice.
* Utilise transport services efficiently and advise on transport needs; monitor attendance of students if assigned to the house.

Money and Budgets

* Account for petty cash and personal monies in line with policies.
* Maintain petty cash float and balanced accounts.
* Ensure goods and services are used for their intended purposes and are properly accounted for.
* Assist in preparation and monitoring of budgets.
* Manage house accounts and monthly submissions to the service office.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

* Hold a minimum of Level 7 on the QQI Framework (BA in Social Care Studies) or equivalent qualification in Health or Social Care.
* CORU registered or provide proof of application in progress.
* 1 year experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
* Understanding of current policy and developments in Social Care within disability services.
* Ability to follow, evaluate and contribute to plans and methods to meet ongoing needs.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
* Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
* Full driver’s licence and availability of own car (essential).

Details of the Role

Salary Scale: €36,379 - €52,445 per annum (based on a 40 hour week)

Location: Kilcullen, Co. Kildare

Duration: Full-time 40 hours per week
