PERMANENT PART-TIME SUPPORT WORKER (DAY SERVICE)



SKYLARK SERVICES, ATHENRY, CO. GALWAY

The Role:


Support Workers provide a key-working supportive role for a group of people supported by the services. This role comprises two main elements. Firstly, the Support Worker is responsible for ensuring high-quality provision of supports to people who use Day services in line with current New Directions policy. This includes supporting individuals, where required, in a range of daily living skills aimed at building independence in line with their will and preferences. This can include, but is not limited to, support in areas of food and nutrition, personal development, and other aspects of physical well-being, to the extent required by the individual.


Secondly, a major focus of the Support Worker role is to assist people supported by the services with the development of Individual Plans and the achievement of associated outcomes. A critical aspect is supporting individuals to participate in the ordinary everyday life of the community through inclusive and creative thinking.



Reporting/Responsible To:


Team Leader/Senior Staff/Service Coordinator/Area Manager.



Qualifications:


The successful candidate must have a good general education. A recognised qualification in the field of intellectual disability or a FETAC level 5 course is desirable.



Experience:


Experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability and challenging behaviour is desirable.



Skills:


Candidates must demonstrate flexibility, communication, and team-working skills, along with enthusiasm for the role. Basic IT skills are also advantageous. A full, clean manual Irish Driving Licence (Class B) is essential. Assistance will be provided to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence if not already held. Fluency in verbal and written English is also required.



Working Hours:


1 x 58 hours per fortnight and 1 x 70 hours per fortnight, based on a 14-day duty roster. The role involves working various shifts, including weekends, public holidays, split hours, night shifts, and sleepovers, to meet service needs. Flexibility in working hours is essential to provide a quality service aligned with the Brothers of Charity model based on Personal Outcome Measures.



Annual Leave:


22 days per annum.



Remuneration:


Based on the Department of Health Care Assistant (Disability Services) pay scale as of 1st March 2025: €33,699 with 11 increments up to €46,190 (max) pro-rata per annum. Long Service Increment (LSI) of €46,984 per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Additional payments are made for weekends, public holidays, and night duties.



Tenure:


These are permanent, part-time, pensionable positions.



Probation:


A nine-month probationary period applies from the date of appointment. Employment may be terminated during this period if found unsuitable. The probation may be extended at the employer’s discretion.
