This role ensures that data is treated as a strategic asset, supporting regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation. The role will work cross-functionally with business, risk, compliance, and technology teams to embed data governance principles across the organisation and supporting the overall Risk and Compliance Management frameworks at MUFG.Role and Responsibilities:Support the Head of Data Governance in rolling out the Data Governance framework at MUFG.Create and maintain the policies and procedures in accordance with data management best practices, create awareness of these policies and procedures across IT, Business and Supporting Functions.Collaborate with the Business Data Office, Data Owners & Stewards and Data Strategy group at MUFG to create a target state operating model for data management, this will include:A Data Catalogue,Data TaxonomyThe Monitoring and identification Critical data assets that are essential to the organisation’s operations or services (Critical Data Elements),Metadata ManagementData Quality AssessmentsData issue management and remediationData Maturity assessmentsAssign ownership of data, ensuring there is a clear RACI (responsible, accountable, consulted and informed) matrix in the organisationDevelop and Create an Enterprise Level Data Scorecard to showcase progress across the various data management capabilities at MUFG, develop and maintain reporting for committees across MUFG.Develop foundational data governance training for MUFG, Encourage better data literacy within the organisation by establishing wider data management capabilities within the organisation. Manage and promote our Data Culture.Support wider company efforts and projects from a Data Governance perspective with respect to new business, products and services, locations and other strategic initiatives.Adhoc projects and initiatives as required to support the Data Governance and wider Risk and Compliance Frameworks.Skills and knowledge:Understanding of data governance frameworks and implementation of themUnderstanding of data life cycle management, metadata & lineage (concepts and tools), data quality, ownership, access management etcIssue management: designing and overseeing escalation paths and remediation workflowsData Analysis and problem-solving skillsPolicy development: ability to draft, review and maintain policies and procedures for data governanceRisk and control frameworks: ability to embed governance in 1LOD / 2LOD structuresReporting: Creation of necessary reports to showcase data risks and issuesScorecards: creation of data scorecards to compliment reportsKnowledge of data maturity assessments and best practiceBehavioral CompetenciesAnalytical Thinking: Ability to assess data risks and propose pragmatic solutions.Integrity: Upholds high standards of confidentiality and ethical data handling.Collaboration: Builds strong relationships across business, risk, and technology teams.Communication: Clearly articulates complex data issues to technical and non-technical audiences.Accountability: Takes ownership of data governance outcomes and continuous improvement.This role is a Controlled Function (CF) role under the CBI Fitness & Probity regime.QualificationsUndergraduate DegreeBachelor’s degree in information management, Risk, Business, or related field.Professional certifications or similarCDMP (Certified Data Management Professional – DAMA)DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model)CMIP (Certified Information Management Professional)Professional Experience5+ years of experience in data governance, risk management, or compliance within financial services.Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data lifecycle management, and regulatory requirements.Experience & proficiency with data governance tools (e.g. MDM, data catalogues, data quality platforms).Strong understanding of AWS and M365 products desirableProven ability to influence stakeholders and drive cross-functional initiatives.Additional InformationAt MUFG Investor Services, we are exceptionally proud of our approach to Hybrid Working.
