The post holder will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Medical Directorate, Emergency Department and Bed Management Department, ensuring alignment with Beaumont Hospital Strategy 20252030 and national health reform priorities under Slintecare. The role encompasses service transformation, innovation in care delivery, performance against national waiting list targets and the development of six-day service models. The post holder will participate in corporate governance, lead major service redesign projects and influence hospital-wide strategic decisions. ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesStrategic Transformation & Innovation Lead strategic planning and transformation initiatives for Medical and Emergency Services in line with Beaumont Hospital Strategy 20252030. Develop innovative models of care and service delivery to improve patient access and outcomes. Drive implementation of six-day service delivery and extended hours models. Oversee major service reconfiguration projects and digital transformation initiatives. Ensure integration of clinical and operational services across directorates to optimise patient pathways. National Policy & Performance Compliance Ensure compliance with Slintecare objectives and national health reform priorities. Monitor and deliver performance against national waiting list targets and ED compliance standards. Produce performance reports for the Executive Management Team and external stakeholders. Operational Management Provide senior oversight of operational delivery across Medical Directorate and Emergency Department. Ensure effective coordination between directorates and corporate services to optimise patient flow. Support Directorate Business Managers in resolving operational challenges and implementing new service initiatives. Performance & Financial Management Oversee budget management for the Medical and Emergency Services, ensuring financial control and cost containment plans. Identify opportunities for income generation and efficiency savings. Develop and monitor KPIs aligned with hospital and national targets. Human Resources & Organisational Development Provide leadership and guidance to Directorate Business Managers and senior staff. Ensure workforce planning aligns with service demands and strategic objectives. Promote a culture of continuous learning, staff development, and engagement Ensure structures are in place across the directorate to support both formal and informal professional learning and development. Quality & Risk Management Ensure compliance with HIQA standards, hospital policies, and national regulations. Support hospital accreditation programmes including JCI and OECI Oversee risk management processes, including incident investigations and quality improvement plans. Champion patient safety and clinical governance initiatives across both directorates. Corporate Governance & Executive Leadership Participate in senior management decision-making and hospital governance committees. Contribute to hospital-wide strategic initiatives, capital projects, and infrastructure planning. Promote a corporate approach to the hospitals mission, vision, and values. The successful candidate will participate in the senior management on-call roster for the hospital and deputise for the COO as required. QualificationsQualifications & Experience Essential: Educated to degree level Minimum of 7 years senior management experience in the acute hospital environment. Demonstrable track record in strategic planning, operational management, and service development. Demonstrable evidence of leadership and management of large multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Evidence of strong financial and performance management skills. Desirable: Masters degree in healthcare management or related field. Executive/Senior Management on call experience Behaviours & Competencies Strong leadership, management and influencing skills. Excellent negotiation and diplomacy skills.
