About the Role
We are seeking a Designated Person for Operational Risk and a Head of Risk, to oversee the risk framework of a rapidly growing AIFM. This role is a Pre-Approval Controlled Function (PCF-14 / PCF-39F) under the Central Bank of Ireland's Fund Management Company Guidance (CP86), and is responsible for ensuring that all risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored, and reported.
You will play a critical role in embedding a strong risk culture and governance framework across the firm’s activities, with a particular focus on digital infrastructure, outsourcing, cybersecurity, fund risk and investor servicing in a fintech-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the Head of Risk and Designated Person (DP) for Operational Risk Management under CP86.
* Own and maintain the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) in line with CBI expectations and best practices.
* Oversee and assess operational risks across all business lines, including fintech-enabled functions, fund operations, and outsourced service providers.
* Develop and manage risk registers, KPIs, KRIs, and risk appetite statements relevant to operational risk.
* Implement and monitor controls for key risk areas such as IT/cybersecurity, third-party outsourcing, business continuity, data protection, and transaction processing.
* Lead operational risk assessments and thematic risk reviews across the business.
* Prepare regular operational risk reporting to the Board, Risk Committee, and CBI as required.
* Collaborate closely with other C-Suite/ Designated Persons (e.g. Compliance, Investment Management, Fund Risk) to ensure holistic risk coverage.
* Contribute to incident investigation and root cause analysis, and lead the tracking of remediation plans.
* Ensure CBI requirements under CP86 and AIFMD are met from an operational risk perspective.
* Liaise with auditors, service providers, and the regulator on operational risk matters.
* Champion a culture of risk awareness and support ongoing staff training on operational risk topics.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in operational risk, preferably within an AIFM ManCo or MiFID firm.
* Deep knowledge of the CBI’s CP86 framework and regulatory expectations for fund management companies.
* Strong understanding of AIFMD, outsourcing, cybersecurity risk, and fintech infrastructure.
* Proven track record in developing and implementing risk management frameworks in regulated financial services.
* Experience interacting with regulators, Board members, and senior executives.
* Relevant qualifications such as a Risk Management Diploma, ICA or PRMIA certifications, or postgraduate studies in risk or compliance preferred.
* Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
