Deliver the Future of Land Remediation on a Nationally Significant Project
Are you ready to take on the technical delivery of one of Ireland’s most high‑profile remediation projects? This is your chance to shape the design and delivery of innovative solutions for contaminated brownfield and historic landfill sites—bringing your civil engineering expertise to a landmark €11 million initiative. This role is based in the Republic of Ireland, with flexibility to work from any Tetra Tech RPS office and travel to Ireland approximately one week per month.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As Remediation Design Engineer, you’ll be central to a multidisciplinary team tackling complex contamination challenges. You’ll analyse site investigation data, develop remediation strategies, and design civil engineering solutions including groundwater treatment and capping systems. Working alongside internal specialists and external stakeholders, you’ll oversee contractor procurement and contribute to project delivery as one of two assistant project managers.
The role is primarily office‑based with regular site visits and client engagement. You’ll collaborate with experts across drainage, mechanical engineering, and infrastructure, supported by Tetra Tech RPS’s extensive UK and Ireland network. During peak phases, the team expands to fifteen engineers and environmental scientists, offering a dynamic and technically rich environment.
Your Impact in this Position
From the outset, you’ll deliver detailed design work, support feasibility studies, and coordinate across disciplines. You’ll engage with contractors, contribute to stakeholder briefings, and support procurement activities. As the project evolves, you’ll take full ownership of remediation design delivery, ensuring integration with drainage and mechanical systems and compliance with regulatory frameworks. You’ll also support contract negotiations and cost management.
Longer term, you’ll be recognised as a remediation expert within the Ireland business, influencing best practice across the group and contributing to nationally significant projects. If not already chartered, there will be support towards chartership as well as future leadership opportunities, making this role a clear path for professional growth.
Your Toolkit for Success at TetraTech RPS
We recruit using core capabilities – the toolkit of essential skills, experience, competencies, and responsibilities required to perform the role effectively. While we seek individuals that meet a benchmark level of expertise, we also appreciate candidates who meet 75 % of the requirements.
Experience of Large-Scale Remediation Projects
The successful candidate must bring substantial experience in the delivery of complex remediation schemes, particularly those involving contaminated soils, groundwater, and surface water. This includes work on brownfield sites, historic landfills, and industrial locations with significant environmental challenges. Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks is essential, as is the ability to interpret site investigation data and translate findings into practical, compliant remediation strategies.
Subject Matter Expertise in Remediation Design
This role demands deep technical knowledge of remediation technologies, whether chemical or biological, and the ability to design and implement bespoke treatment systems. You will lead the development of remediation strategies, including landfill capping and groundwater treatment, and act as the subject matter expert within the Ireland business. Producing and reviewing feasibility studies and options appraisals is also a key part of this capability.
Design Coordination Across Disciplines
The engineer must be adept at coordinating inputs from a wide range of disciplines, including drainage, mechanical engineering, and civil infrastructure. While drawings will be produced by drafting teams, the engineer must understand how systems interact and ensure that all elements of the design are fully integrated. This includes leading the design of remediation works while supporting the delivery of wider project components such as roads and drainage systems.
Stakeholder Engagement and Management
Effective engagement with stakeholders is a central part of this role. You will support communications with clients, regulators, local authorities, and community representatives, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Defence. The ability to negotiate costs, justify additional work, and support contract discussions is vital.
Contractor Procurement, Management, and Supervision
Lead the procurement process for remediation contractors, including the development of tender documentation, evaluation of bids, and negotiation of contract terms. Once appointed, oversee contractor performance to ensure delivery aligns with design intent. Manage quality assurance and resolve technical issues on site.
Beneficial Training & Qualifications
* Chartered status or progression towards it is preferred
* Ideally, ICE membership or registration as a Ground Engineering Professional (or other equivalent professional organisation)
* At offer stage, this role requires successful completion of the Garda vetting process
