Lead Azure DevOps Engineer (APIM) – Irish Life
Irish Life, one of Ireland’s largest financial institutions, is seeking a Lead Azure DevOps Engineer (APIM) to spearhead our digital transformation and shape cloud strategy delivery for a major financial services organization.
Role Overview
As a Lead Azure DevOps Engineer (APIM), you will design and implement secure, scalable, and high‑performing APIs using Azure API Management, lead the delivery of CI/CD pipelines, mentor junior team members, and collaborate across teams to ensure product quality and innovation.
What you will help us to achieve
* Architect API solutions using Azure API Management and secure integration with on‑premise systems.
* Design and oversee scalable CI/CD pipelines, automate operational processes, and champion best practices for infrastructure as code.
* Facilitate hybrid integration between on‑premise systems, cloud services, and third‑party applications.
* Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence.
* Collaborate with development, DevOps, architecture, and security teams to meet functional and non‑functional requirements.
* Use Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and APIM analytics to monitor and troubleshoot API performance and availability.
* Identify opportunities to leverage new Azure services and technologies, driving efficiency and improved business outcomes.
* Shape and execute Azure cloud transformation delivery, working closely with technical and business stakeholders.
What you will need to be successful in the role
Technical Expertise
* Advanced knowledge of cloud infrastructure‑as‑code, release management, and automated deployment strategies.
* Experience configuring and maintaining AKS, Virtual Networks, and Azure Storage Accounts for scalable deployments.
* Hands‑on experience with Azure APIM, Logic Apps, and Azure Functions for hybrid integration scenarios.
* Proficiency in Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and APIM analytics for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
* Experience integrating APIM with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or other tools for automated deployment and management.
Leadership and Collaboration
* Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
* Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities with a focus on delivering high‑quality solutions.
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in Azure DevOps practices, development, and management, with at least 5 years of hands‑on experience with Azure API Management.
* Strong understanding of Azure integration services, including Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and Azure Frontdoor.
* Experience of API security, scalability, and performance optimisation.
* Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaborative team practices.
* Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation using tools like PowerShell, ARM templates, or Terraform.
* Experience with API testing tools such as Postman or SoapUI.
* Familiarity with RESTful API design principles and best practices.
* Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerisation (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
* Experience with Power Platform and Azure Open AI.
* Experience writing scripts with PowerShell and Swagger.
* Understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
* Azure certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
