Initiated in 2010 and officially registered as an educational center for African history in 2020, the AfricaHistory Education Center for African Studies is a leading scholarly organization dedicated to the study of the African continent. The center encourages and enables the production and dissemination of knowledge about Africa. It provides scholars, activists, and other public figures with infrastructure to foster collaborations and develop research agendas. Additionally, it acts as a platform for political advocacy, bridging scholarship and public life.
ADCENTER is seeking an individual with an educational background for our project initiative, the AFRICA HISTORY EDUCATION CENTER FOR AFRICAN STUDIES.
The Educational Policy Director (EPD) will support the CEO and manage the day-to-day affairs of the organization, contributing to its growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Experience in education program development, especially designing and delivering programs in digital and virtual environments.
* Serve as the organization’s official spokesperson.
* Lead fundraising and sponsorship activities.
* Oversee program or service delivery in line with organizational policies.
* Establish and implement programs aligned with the AHEC mission, in consultation with the Board.
* Hire, supervise, evaluate, and manage staff.
* Develop annual budgets and manage finances accordingly.
* Report on organizational and financial progress to the Board and key stakeholders.
* Contract with consultants and service providers.
* Oversee legal, tax, and insurance matters.
* Negotiate and execute contracts consistent with the mission.
* Propose amendments to policies and procedures as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
Maintain a productive working environment, ensure compliance with regulations, and uphold affirmative action and equal opportunity policies.
Qualifications:
* Experience with academic associations, African Studies, African Diaspora Studies, or related centers (not mandatory).
* Proven experience in non-profit/association management, including budgeting, event, and program management.
* Fundraising and development skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
* Graduate work in African Studies preferred but not required.
* Knowledge of association administration, organization, coordination, and report writing.
* Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with web, CMS, blogs, and social media platforms.
* Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
