Financial Controller – Fixed term contract
Cairn is recruiting for a Financial Controller to join the Finance function on a Fixed Term Contract. This role will be responsible for the Financial Reporting of month end activities and involved in the Annual reporting cycle. The Financial Controller will report to Group Financial Controller.
Key responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
Leading the completion of month-end management accounts within agreed timelines.
Month end journals: review and complete a monthly balance sheet analysis and reconciliations review.
Group consolidation: consolidation of all entities in the Cairn plc portfolio.
Prepare interim, preliminary and year end results (annual report) for the business, including preparing and reviewing where applicable all relevant accompanying notes.
Systems knowledge: develop our use and knowledge of accounting and reporting systems to produce efficiencies in month / Group reporting process.
Technical competency: ensure books and records are kept using best practice in accounting standards.
Audit: This role will play a critical part in the half-year and year-end audit process, managing the team in delivering all required elements of the external audit. It is expected that this role will be the key contact and driver for the external auditor, in particular at Director level.
Technical accounting: Responsible for preparing all technical accounting memo for audit team and Group FC as required.
Business Analysis:
Producing accurate and timely performance information for the business on an ongoing basis.
Interrogation of month-end numbers to include detailed variance analysis.
Preparation/review of monthly management pack.
Review of quarterly and annual bank covenant monitoring and reporting.
Supporting the business as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
Review of month end payroll files.
Cover for Group Financial Controller on tax matters when on leave.
Responsible for all System approvals and payments approvals.
Responsible for all share-based payments journals and reconciliations.
The candidate – key requirements
Qualified accountant with minimum 3-4 years PQE in industry, ideally with a big 4 training background.
Construction or property experience is advantageous.
Experience working in a financial reporting team within a Plc or large organisation.
Strong commitment to learning and development, enthusiastic and willingness to learn.
Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and ability to overlay technical accounting knowledge commercially.
Ability to differentiate between competing priorities and channel focus in correct areas.
Can do attitude with acute attention to detail coupled with a continuous process improvement mindset.
Be a change agent for finance transformation to ensure processes and systems are implemented to the highest standard and fit the needs of the organisation.
Strong excel and systems knowledge with excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Adaptable and energetic with strong interpersonal skills.
Self‑motivated team player within the Finance function with the ability to work on one’s own initiative.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, often conflicting, deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills with experience of interacting with senior executive team members in a Group HQ environment.
A strong ability to multi‑task and work under pressure to deadlines in a fast‑paced environment with conflicting priorities, where relationships, organisation, accuracy and a high attention to detail is required.
Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
