Research Associate in Carbon Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications
This position is based in Australia and reports to Associate Professor Sophia Gu. The role focuses on the synthesis, optimisation, characterisation, catalytic analysis, and biological testing of nanomaterials to advance biomedical applications.
Salary and Contract
Level A – $113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation
Full time – fixed‑term contract 12 months with possibility to extend
Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Responsibilities
Conduct independent research in nanomaterials; write scientific papers and reports; participate in conferences and workshops; supervise HDR students; engage with industry partners.
Qualifications and Skills
* PhD in material science, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related nanotechnology area.
* Track record of publications and conference presentations.
* Experience in synthesis, characterisation, catalysis, and/or bio‑applications of carbon nanomaterials.
* Ability to undertake high‑quality independent research with limited supervision.
* Teamwork, collaboration across disciplines, and effective relationship building.
* Strong communication and interaction with stakeholders and students.
* Commitment to UNSW’s aims, values, and policies.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and training.
