Overview
Lead Machine Learning Engineer role at Sun Life, Waterford, County Waterford, Ireland. This position focuses on designing, developing, deploying and testing data science and machine learning solutions to support business and client outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, install and/or test leading data science and machine learning solutions that are high-quality, innovative, efficient, secure, scalable and compliant with standards and best practices in support of business and client outcomes.
* Drive U.S. IT and U.S. business groups to deliver data-informed product strategies.
* Lead full software and product development lifecycle (SDLC) and contribute to continuous improvements using Agile practices.
* Develop deliverables to enable value-generating data solutions, seeking feedback from business and clients across U.S. IT and business groups.
* Write advanced, well-designed, testable, flexible, and scalable data science and machine learning models and supporting code.
* Transform and map data from source to destination using various technology solutions; produce specifications and assess operational feasibility.
* Integrate leading software components into a fully functional software system; deploy programs and evaluate business and client feedback.
* Develop data solution-related testing plans, quality assurance procedures, and participate in code reviews; sign off on large features and validate vulnerability fixes.
* Mentor other engineers and proactively improve application performance, reliability, and scale.
* Augment existing data sets with other data sources to create reusable data assets.
* Maintain awareness of industry trends and influence architectural design and decisions; lead a data-first approach to problem solving and IT solution design.
Qualifications
* Bachelors or Masters degree in computing or numerical fields, or equivalent industry experience.
Preferred Skills
* Leading data science, machine learning models and IT solutions development (programming) foundation.
* Proficiency in Python and R.
* Experience with data science platforms (Dataiku preferred) and Linux, containerization, AWS environments.
* Knowledge of AI/GenAI development patterns (e.g., RAG).
* Strong testing skills, tools/frameworks, processes, and principles for software solutions in a production environment; ability to write and execute test plans.
* Ability to collaborate on, drive and deliver data-informed product strategies; improve data quality, performance, reliability and scale.
* Experience with data governance, privacy, security best practices; understanding of DevSecOps and DataOps principles.
* Ability to write data mappings and metadata specifications for medium features; participate in data modeling, development and testing; validate vulnerability fixes.
* Strong problem-solving mindset with ability to mentor others and influence architectural decisions.
* Awareness of industry trends, vendors and tools to inform design decisions.
