Meet the team
We are responsible for thePlayout and Distribution of RTÉ’s broadcast and streaming Television and Radio outputs.
We are looking for an experiencedInfrastructure Engineer with a passion for broadcast and internet streaming technologies to join our dedicated and multi-disciplined Broadcast Technology team.
Reporting to thePlayout and Distribution Manager, you will be responsible forproviding technical project services, 2nd/3rd line issue resolution, process and thought leadership, technical direction, and operational services to RTÉ’s playout and distribution team.
About the role:
* Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure for playout and distribution systems, ensuring high availability and reliability
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to develop and optimize streaming technology solutions
* Manage and support transmission infrastructure for linear television playout and OTT edge caching for live and on-demand video and audio
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to streaming and broadcast systems
* Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability
* Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation within the team
* This role requires primarily business hours, however, there is a requirement to fulfil planned infrastructure systems maintenance, upgrades and on-call duties outside of normal business hours
About you:
* A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within broadcast or media, to include:proven experience in infrastructure engineering, with a focus on streaming technology and broadcast systems
* A degree in Broadcast Engineering, Media Technology, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
* Strong knowledge of Linux, IP networking, storage, compute as well-as cloud computing and virtualization technology infrastructure
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team
* Strong understanding of emerging technologies in broadcast streaming, including cloud-based production platforms and virtualised workflows. Knowledge of key industry standards and protocols, such as SMPTE 2110, HLS, MPEG-DASH, CMAF, CENC to ensure seamless, high-quality content delivery across a variety of platforms and devices
* Experienced in implementing scripting and automation tools
Nice to have
* Software development experience (at least one object-orient language)
* Experience implementing web-based APIs
* Familiarity with scripting and automation tools

This appointment will be offered on an ongoing, full-time basis at the Senior Broadcast Engineer scale. The salary scale is from€60,795 to €73,609 gross per annum.
