Low Care
operations built to deliver best-in-class food safety and technical standards.
Role Overview
The Technical Manager will lead the Technical & Quality function, ensuring the highest standards of food safety, legality, and product quality across all manufacturing operations. This individual will manage a team of six, including the Quality Manager, and will play a strategic role in the transition to the new facility.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capability, deep technical expertise, and experience balancing day-to-day technical operations with long-term improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of six technical and quality professionals, including the Quality Manager.
* Foster a proactive food safety and quality culture across the organisation.
* Ensure team capability, succession planning, and continuous training.
Food Safety, Quality & Compliance
* Own the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (HACCP, TACCP/VACCP, allergen management, etc.).
* Ensure compliance with all customer, BRCGS, retailer, and regulatory standards (DAFM, FSAI, EU food law).
* Maintain and continuously improve technical standards, policies, and processes.
* Lead and manage internal, external, and retailer audits.
New Facility Transition
* Play a central role in the transition to the new purpose-built facility, ensuring all technical, food safety, and quality standards are embedded from day one.
* Support commissioning, equipment validation, and layout optimisation for High Care and Low Care operations.
* Develop and implement technical readiness plans and risk assessments for the new site
Customer & Retailer Engagement
* Act as the point of contact for retailer technical managers.
* Manage customer complaints, product specifications, and quality performance.
* Lead customer visits, technical reviews, and audits.
Product Quality, Innovation & Process Improvement
* Ensure all products consistently meet agreed quality specifications and customer expectations.
* Support NPD and operations teams with technical input, factory trials, and product launches.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce non-conformance, improve yields, and enhance product quality.
Data, Reporting & KPI Management
* Maintain accurate technical and quality records.
* Build and monitor KPIs across quality, compliance, complaints, microbiological results, and audit outcomes.
* Provide regular updates to senior management and proactively recommend improvements.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Essential
* 5+ years' experience in Technical/Quality roles within food manufacturing.
* Strong understanding of High Care and Low Care operations.
* Proven experience leading technical and/or quality teams.
* Excellent knowledge of retailer technical standards, BRCGS, HACCP, and EU legislation.
* Experience managing customer and third-party audits.
* Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
Desirable
* Experience supporting site transitions, commissioning, or major facility upgrades.
* Experience in chilled foods, meat, or ready-to-eat manufacturing.
* Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or related field.
