Purcell O' Leary are recruiting for an Assistant Accountant
for our growing client.
This role supports the finance function of an agricultural business by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with reporting, and ensuring compliance with sector-specific regulations.
The role combines traditional accounting tasks with agri-focused responsibilities such as cost tracking, accounting, and grant administration.
Key Responsibilities for the Assistant Accountant
Financial Record-Keeping
— Maintain ledgers, journals, and daily transaction records for the operations of the business.
Accounts Payable
— Process supplier invoices (feed mills, vets, contractors), reconcile statements, and prepare payment runs.
Accounts Receivable
— Issue customer invoices (milk, grain, livestock sales), monitor debtors, and follow up on outstanding balances.
Bank Reconciliation
— Reconcile farm bank accounts, credit cards, and merchant accounts.
Cost Analysis
— Track variable and fixed costs; assist with budgeting and support cost-per-unit analysis.
Grant & Scheme Support
— Assist with documentation for DAFM schemes (e.g., BISS, ACRES, TAMS), maintain compliance records, and prepare submissions.
Payroll Assistance
— Support weekly/fortnightly payroll for farm staff and seasonal workers.
Month-End Support
— Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments, and assist with management accounts.
Requirements
5 to 7 years Accounts Experience.
Experience and understanding of the Agricultural sector.
A good attitude and good communication experience.
