We are seeking an experienced Senior Substation Design Engineer to join a leading semi-state organisation on 12 month contract. Successful applicant will be part of a substations design team within the GIS Substations Section of Networks Stations Design in Networks Engineering.
This position offers flexible hybrid working, with up to 3 days per week hybrid work.
Day Rate: Up to €720 per day
Location: Primarily Remote (in-person collaboration 2 days per week)
Hours: 35-hour week, Monday–Friday
Contract Duration: 12 months
Responsibilities
5. The key responsibility of the role is to provide high quality designs, safety coordination and act as the Lead Engineer on a diverse range of electricity transmission and distribution development projects. This includes:
6. Overall responsibility for leading and delivering substation designs, design meetings and all programme deliverable, budgetary and quality requirements
7. Provide design review support on EPC or Design and Build Delivered projects
8. Providing technical support to colleagues in the area of substation design, meetings and ensuring the verification of designs issued within the group
9. Management and coordination of technical, commercial and financial aspects of the project with all internal and external stakeholders
10. Overall responsibility for safety as Project Supervisor Design Stage (PSDP). Preparation & review of design risk assessments and project H&S plans for design & construction teams
11. A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivering results within a tight time frame whilst ensuring the safety and quality of the project is not impacted
12. The ability to manage and coordinate inputs from a range of engineering disciplines and key stakeholders, to act as the Lead Engineer on a number of projects.
Requirements
13. Either level 8 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential
14. 7 years' plus relevant experience in a wide range of GIS substation design including transmission and distribution substations.
15. A strong understanding of all elements of substation tendering and tender evaluations, scoping, planning, design, costing, construction and commissioning.
16. Design review experience on EPC and Design and Build delivered projects.
17. Strong project management and contract management skills and knowledge

18. Experience in control & protection systems, auxiliary power systems (AC/DC), power transformers and or reactors.
19. Full drivers licence and access to a car.
20. The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
21. PSDP Competency (or CDMC equivalent).
