Senior Pharmaceutical Technician - Pharmacy Cancer Services Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Work in the Pharmacy Cancer Services aseptically preparing cancer treatments according to procedure. Rotate into other pharmacy services depending on the overall needs of the department (including weekend rosters). Maintain the sterility and integrity of the isolators used for re-constitution. Participate in the microbiological monitoring of the isolators and their environment. Carry out stock control and ordering procedures for cytotoxic pharmaceuticals. Maintain good computer and paper records for cancer services patients. Assist in the labelling and worksheet production following receipt of prescription and authorisation from the cancer services pharmacist. Maintain standards of clinical hygiene within the isolator environment. Assist in the training of pharmacists, pharmaceutical technicians and intern pharmacists in re-constitution services. Assist in the training and induction of any pharmacy staff as requested. Participate in the operation and recording of cancer clinical trials. Draw up and maintain SOPs and template documents with regards to tendering and related activities. Participate in the preparation and maintenance of policies and protocols for all aspects of aseptic and cancer services. Undertake audits of these protocols to ensure best practice is being observed at all times. Attend continuing education courses and research activities as deemed advisable/necessary by the Chief Pharmacist or departmental head (possibly in consultation with HR). Draw up duty and annual leave rosters for Pharmaceutical Technicians within the unit. Liaise with management and staff in matters of departmental procedure as or when problems arise. Make recommendations to the supervisor on how methods and procedures can be improved, including identifying cost saving opportunities in medication expenditure. Advise the supervisor of malfunctioning or unsafe equipment in the pharmacy. Ensure that work is carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the provisions of legislation. Consistently meet targets as set out by the Pharmacy Manager. Liaise with and draw on skills and experiences of other MUH staff as required. Participate in the activities and duties set down for Senior and Basic Grade Technicians as requested by the Pharmacy Manager. Carry out any other relevant duties relevant as may be designated by the Chief Pharmacist or otherwise assigned from time to time. Eligibility Criteria - Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc: Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition possess the Pharmaceutical Technicians Diploma awarded by University of Dublin; OR a Pharmacy Technicians qualification at QQI Level 6 awarded by the Dublin Institute of Technology, Athlone Institute of Technology, Letterkenny Institute of Technology or Carlow Institute of Technology; OR the Pharmacy Services Certificate (NVQ level 3) offered by the Irish Pharmaceutical Union; OR a relevant qualification at least equivalent to one of the above, OR Be currently employed as a Pharmacy Technician in the publicly funded Irish health service. AND have at least three years full-time satisfactory post qualification hospital experience. AND possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, professional knowledge and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Experience in aseptic compounding is desirable but not essential. Closing Date: 1pm on Monday, 20th October 2025.
