OverviewI am working with a well-established Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) services company employing approximately 120 staff, operating primarily within the maintenance and contract renewals sector. Their workforce consists of 50–60 mobile engineers working on client sites and approximately 30 office-based staff, delivering services across a diverse client base.As part of their continued growth and commitment to best practice, they are creating a new Health & Safety Manager role to lead, develop, and embed a structured and proactive safety culture across the business.Role PurposeThe Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all Health & Safety systems and processes across the company. This role will act as the central point of contact for internal teams, field engineers, and external clients regarding all H&S matters, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and client requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety ManagementDevelop, implement, and maintain the company’s Health & Safety Management SystemEnsure compliance with all relevant Irish H&S legislation, regulations, and codes of practiceCreate and maintain policies, procedures, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS)Maintain accurate H&S records, audits, and reporting structuresCarry out site inspections, audits, and risk assessments for maintenance and renewal worksSupport engineers working on the road with safe systems of work and toolbox talksInvestigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implementedPromote a strong safety culture across a mobile workforceClient & Contract SupportAct as the primary H&S point of contact for clients and main contractorsManage prequalification questionnaires (PQQs), safety documentation, and compliance portalsAttend client meetings and audits as requiredEnsure client-specific H&S requirements are understood and implementedTraining & CommunicationIdentify training needs and manage H&S training programmes for staff and engineersDeliver toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefingsProvide clear guidance and advice to managers and supervisorsMonitor H&S performance metrics and report to senior managementDrive continuous improvement initiatives and best practiceSupport ISO or similar accreditation processes if applicableKey Skills & ExperienceProven experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally within M&E, construction, engineering, or maintenance environmentsStrong working knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislationExperience dealing with clients and external stakeholders on H&S mattersAbility to work in a structured, organised, and methodical mannerExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsFull driving licence (site visits required)Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, Diploma or equivalent)Experience supporting a mobile engineering workforceExperience working in a contractor or services-based businessFamiliarity with ISO 45001 or similar standardsWhat We OfferFlexible working arrangement (3–5 days per week)Competitive and negotiable salaryOpportunity to shape and build the H&S function from the ground upSupportive management team and growing business
