The Courts Service Climate Action Unit is based in Dublin and is responsible for energy efficiency and decarbonisation of Courts buildings nationwide. A blended work arrangement is anticipated — subject to satisfactory probation — between our Dublin HQ in Smithfield Dublin 7, our venues and home office. A significant pipeline of projects is planned over the coming years and regular travel to Courts Service venues will be required.
The Courts Service Climate Action Unit is based in Dublin and is responsible for energy efficiency and decarbonisation of Courts buildings nationwide. We are now seeking an additional energy engineer to join our unit at our Dublin base.
The Role
This is a technical role. The advisor will provide support to the unit manager and other staff by carrying out site visits and reviews, engaging with colleagues and stakeholders, gathering and analysing data, proposing and implementing projects and actions, preparing technical and contract documentation, ISO50001 tasks, consumption monitoring and analysis, project oversight and contractor management, financial and quality review, and ongoing tasks as required to assist in decarbonisation of the Courts Service.
The role requires a building services or energy engineer with a detailed understanding of HVAC, Building Management Systems (BMS), renewable technologies, and energy efficiency. You will join an existing technical team of five within the Climate Action Unit. Responsibility for particular regions or cohorts of buildings may be assigned and adjusted based on unit needs, project pipeline, utility overview and our Climate Action Roadmap. Regular travel to Courts Service venues will be required, in line with operational needs. Willingness to learn, flexibility, adaptability and curiosity are key requirements.

Responsibilities
* A detailed understanding of energy management in buildings, building services including heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, BMS, renewable technologies and energy efficiency.
* Experience in energy use in buildings — energy audits, research, data analysis, preparation of technical and contract documentation, contract management, contractor interaction and site quality review.
* Ability to provide technical support and produce technical documentation as well as non-technical reports.
* Excellent communication and the ability to independently work, prioritise and manage time.
* Experience managing multiple projects concurrently under tight timeframes.
* Ability to carry out cost benefit analysis of projects, write business cases and complete post-project reviews and reports.
* A Level 8 degree in Building Services, Mechanical or Energy engineering or equivalent; additional qualification to master’s level is advantageous.
* A minimum of 6 years’ relevant work experience.
* Full, clean driving licence and access to a car for traveling to court offices is essential.
Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland, CIBSE or similar is highly desirable.
* Additional controls/BMS knowledge would be considered an advantage.
* Additional formal energy qualifications such as NDBER or DEC assessor or other.
* Proficiency in CAD.
