Company Overview
Brady Underwriting is a Lloyd's coverholder specialising in commercial insurance products for the Irish broker market through a network of authorised insurance brokers.
Role Purpose
As a Junior Underwriter you will support the underwriting team in assessing, negotiating and securing new and renewal business.
You will help ensure that the risk and policy documentation meets the company's underwriting guidelines, provide excellent service to broking partners, assist in portfolio management, and contribute to growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Analyse submissions for new business and renewals: gather and review data, identify risk exposures, determine acceptability and pricing in line with underwriting guidelines.
Negotiate and secure both new and existing business through broking partners; develop and maintain relationships with brokers.
Liaise with capacity providers and internal stakeholders on risk placements and terms & conditions.
Maintain and enhance product knowledge: understand policy covers, conditions, exclusions, and service levels.
Prepare policy schedules, endorsements, and documentation; ensure accuracy and timeliness of underwriting decisions and policy issuance.
Monitor portfolio performance and assist in identifying process improvements, risk trends, and opportunities for innovation.
Provide high-quality service: respond to broker queries, meet agreed service levels, support business development efforts.
Continuously develop personal underwriting and commercial broking knowledge and work towards achieving professional insurance qualifications.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
Some experience in commercial broking or underwriting (or a strong desire to move into underwriting) — ideally within the insurance industry.
Minimum qualification: APA (or equivalent commercial insurance qualification) or working towards.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills (verbal and written).
Good analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to assess and interpret data and risk.
Proficiency in IT and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Ability to work with change, adapt to new processes, and be proactive in seeking improvements.
Fluent English (written & spoken).
Desirable:
CIP qualification or progress towards same.
Previous experience in a coverholder, wholesale or binding authority environment.
Some commercial insurance product knowledge (e.g., events, sports, leisure, community risk — given Brady Underwriting's focus).
