Finance Manager - Construction We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified accountant to join our clients dynamic team within the construction sector. The successful candidate will work closely with commercial teams to drive project budget management, sub-contractor administration, and financial reporting. This role demands strong financial acumen, excellent attention to detail, first-class communication skills, and a sound understanding of the construction industry. Key Responsibilities Agree project budgets in advance with the commercial and finance teams; upload onto the ERP system for tracking purposes. Monitor project performance and report variances against budgets. Reconcile Quantity Surveyors CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation) reports with the original project budgets. Regularly review budgets alongside Quantity Surveyors to ensure financial reporting reflects expected project profitability. Coordinate with the accounts department on Payment Applications and ensure invoicing is finalised following agreement by the commercial team. Manage the onboarding process for new sub-contractors, ensuring all compliance documentation is complete. Ensure all sub-contractor agreements are properly registered with HMRC/Revenue and accurately recorded within the finance system. Review and track sub-contractor contracts monthly in conjunction with the commercial team. Liaise with the Commercial and Accounts Payable teams regarding payment schedules and monthly cashflow forecasts. Monitor retention release dates and coordinate scheduled settlements with the commercial team. Support the preparation of purchase requisitions and secure required sign-offs. Raise purchase orders on behalf of the commercial team. Work with procurement colleagues regarding delivery requirements. Match supplier invoices to purchase orders, ensuring proper cost allocation to projects. Review GRNs (Goods Received Notes) at month-end and advise the finance team on required accruals and provisions. Collaborate with Accounts Payable during month-end close procedures, including supplier statement reconciliations. Manage project-related balance sheets; reconcile all project costs and liabilities monthly. Work proactively to minimise WIP (Work in Progress) and debtor days in collaboration with finance and commercial teams. Education & Qualifications Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) Minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience Previous experience within a busy finance or commercial department, preferably within construction Strong academic background (minimum 2:1 degree) Skills & Competencies Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office applications Team player with excellent collaboration skills Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities Proactive, inquisitive, and commercially-minded Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Confident, self-motivated and adaptable Professional and credible at all times when representing the business Skills: Working Capital Management Variance Analysis Budget Process Commercial Accounting Cost Accounting Project Commentary
