We are seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to provide specialist assessment, treatment, and risk management for individuals with complex mental health and forensic needs in community-based settings.
Role Overview
This role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred psychiatric care, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with forensic histories, mental illness, and complex behavioural presentations.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct forensic psychiatric assessments, risk formulation, and management planning
Provide expert clinical input on complex cases, including dual diagnosis and behavioural needs
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across mental health and disability services
Support clinical governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
Contribute to maintaining standards aligned with national regulatory bodies
Provide cover for consultant colleagues as required
Requirements
Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (or eligibility)
Proven experience in forensic psychiatry
Strong skills in risk assessment and biopsychosocial formulation
Experience working with complex mental health and/or intellectual disability populations
Excellent communication, decision-making, and teamwork abilities
Desirable
Experience across forensic and intellectual disability services
Involvement in research, audit, or medical education
