Job Overview
The client is seeking a Senior Network Support Engineer / Administrator (Data) to join its Network Operations team. The organisation operates at national scale, supporting critical infrastructure across 189 sites and serving over 7,000 users. The role involves maintaining, enhancing, and securing enterprise network environments while supporting transformation initiatives such as SD‑WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust architectures.
Responsibilities

Lead network-related projects, migrations, and infrastructure improvements.
Conduct research and provide advice on new solutions and best practice.
Contribute to network architecture design, standards, and documentation for DC/Cloud/Campus/WAN and Security.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
Provide advanced support for network incidents, service interruptions, and performance issues.
Monitor network health, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
Configure, maintain, and optimise network infrastructure to ensure high availability and security.
Develop and maintain operational procedures, driving improvements and automation.
Implement network security controls including TACACS+, RADIUS, ACLs, segmentation.
Support compliance with NIS2 and ISO 27001 through cybersecurity controls, documentation, and audit readiness.
Guide, coach, and provide technical escalation support to junior engineers.
Develop knowledge base content and conduct internal training sessions.
Promote best practices in network engineering and documentation.
Understand SD‑WAN, SASE, and zero‑trust principles to support long‑term goals.

Qualifications

Senior level experience (7+ years) in enterprise network environments.
Expertise in routing and switching, IP addressing and subnetting, VLANs, wireless networking, network security, LAN and WAN technologies.
Proficiency with HP Comware 7 switches, HP IMC, Microsoft DHCP and DNS services, Aruba ClearPass, SolarWinds or similar monitoring platforms.
Experience with network design, implementation, migration, and optimisation.
Knowledge of SD‑WAN solutions, SASE, zero‑trust architecture, firewalls, VPNs, secure remote access, and cloud‑integrated services.
Understanding of NIS2 and ISO 27001 cybersecurity requirements and ability to support compliance.
Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and deliver effective knowledge transfer.
Minimum requirement: Ability to start on 1 July 2026.
Certification: One of the following is required – NFQ level 8 (or equivalent) in Computer Science.
English Language Proficiency: CEFR C2 proficiency/mastery.

Key Deliverables

Provision of advanced technical expertise across WAN, LAN, and Wi‑Fi connectivity for 189 nationwide sites with over 7,000 users.
Timely diagnosis and resolution of network incidents and performance issues.
Monthly incident and problem‑management reports including root‑cause analysis.
Continuous monitoring of network health, capacity, and performance.
Design and implementation of network configurations, upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
Delivery of detailed configuration documentation for all changes and deployments.
Installation, testing, and validation of network equipment.
Implementation and ongoing management of network security controls.
Support for SD‑WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust adoption.
Compliance support for NIS2 and ISO 27001.
Maintenance of accurate documentation for DHCP, DNS, IP address management, and network topology.
Development and continuous improvement of operational procedures and runbooks.
Delivery of automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Quarterly review and optimisation of network configurations.
Technical guidance, mentoring, and escalation support.
Internal training sessions on network technologies and best practices.
Contribution of articles, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base content.
Research and evaluation of emerging technologies and tools.
Reports on SD‑WAN, SASE, Zero Trust, and other strategic initiatives.
Participation in cross‑functional project teams.
Performance and activity reports summarising key tasks and risks.
Project‑specific deliverables such as design, migration, test, and post‑implementation reports.
Regular updates to stakeholders on network status and improvement opportunities.
