Senior Psychologist
To lead and deliver high-quality psychological services within the Primary Care Mental Health service across Galway and Roscommon. Provide assessment, formulation, therapy, supervision and service development, working as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team to improve access to mental health supports for individuals in the community. This is part of a waitlist initiative program.
Responsibilities of Senior Psychologist
Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments (diagnostic, formulation) across age ranges (adult and/or adolescents/children depending on remit) including mental health presentations (e.g. anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, possibly neurodivergence).
Provide evidence-based psychological interventions (individual and group), short-medium term therapy, crisis support as appropriate in a primary care context.
Maintain a varied clinical caseload, ensuring timely and safe management of referrals.
Triage referrals in coordination with other mental health professionals.
Participate in (or lead) the design, development, implementation and evaluation of primary care mental health pathways.
Identify gaps in service provision, propose and implement improvements.
Work collaboratively with GP’s, other primary care practitioners, community mental health teams, social services, etc.
Provide consultation to other health professionals and agencies.
Provide clinical supervision to less senior psychologists, trainees (if applicable), and possibly to other non-psychologist staff delivering psychological interventions.
Contribute to training, CPD, workshops in mental health, psychology, primary care.
Ensure professional and ethical practice in line with PSI, HSE policies.
Participate in audit, service evaluation, outcome measurement.
Use evidence based models and best practice.
Support and/or conduct research or evaluation relevant to primary care mental health.
Requirements of Senior Psychologist
Recognised postgraduate professional qualification in Psychology (Clinical / Counselling / Educational), accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland (or equivalent suitably validated qualification).
At least 5 years’ post-graduate professional experience, which includes a minimum of 2 years full-time post-qualification clinical experience.
Have a drivers license and be willing to travel
