Job Description
As a
Mechanical Design Engineer
, you will be part of a team responsible for designing new and advanced food sorting machines.
The
mechanical engineering
department oversees the entire lifecycle of food sorting machines—from early technology development, through detailed design and validation, to maintenance and support in production and the field.
This role involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders like product management and production, as well as external partners such as suppliers, technology providers, and customers.
Benchmarking against competitors is crucial to maintain our technical and cost leadership.
Maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers is essential to support our Design for Manufacturing (DfM) approach, aiming for optimal cost and quality.
Continuous networking with suppliers and technology providers is necessary to understand various manufacturing techniques.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer combines a solid technical background with the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into cost-effective designs.
You will lead the conceptual and architectural definition of machines and modules to meet performance and cost targets, including making cost predictions based on production techniques.
You will design prototypes and parts, including drafting, testing, and validation.
You will maintain technical knowledge of food sorting applications and provide support for sorting issues.
You will collaborate on technical improvements and propose enhancements.
You will organize and lead design reviews and FMEA sessions to ensure design quality.
You will maintain and improve design documentation to meet the requirements of suppliers, manufacturing, and service teams.
You will schedule and oversee the work of junior engineers to meet project deadlines.
You will represent the mechanical engineering department to internal and external stakeholders.
You will maintain a network and conduct market research for new technologies, materials, suppliers, and partners.
Qualifications
This role is ideal for a self-motivated individual eager to improve and develop new skills.
A strong focus on delivering high-quality mechanical designs and staying updated with new technologies is essential.
You should have a genuine passion for engineering, demonstrate initiative, and be capable of working independently and collaboratively.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills are required to effectively present complex technical information.
You should confidently communicate the value of your work to team members and clients.
Multitasking and managing deadlines are important.
Minimum 10 years of hands-on industry experience.
Proficiency in CAD, especially SolidWorks.
Experience with sheet metal, turning, milling, and welding of stainless steel.
Ability to establish effective relationships with suppliers, customers, and colleagues.
Willingness to travel frequently.
Experience in hygienic design or food processing equipment is a plus.
Proven mentoring and coaching abilities are critical for success in this role.
