Overview Of Role
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Nursing and Multidisciplinary team in the operating theatre suite/endoscopy suite involved in providing evidence-based care to patients attending for surgery. We are recruiting nurses in theatre, endoscopy, anaesthetics, and recovery. Services provided at Aut Even Hospital include General Medicine and its sub-specialties such as Respiratory, Care of the Elderly, and Gastroenterology; Cardiology; and various surgical fields including general surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, ENT, orthopaedics, plastics, urology, vascular surgery, and oral surgery. A Perioperative staff nurse may be assigned to any area within Anaesthetics, Scrub, Circulating, PACU, or Endoscopy within their scope of practice.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Professional Responsibilities
* Practice according to the Code of Professional Conduct by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and Clinical Guidelines.
* Adhere to the Nursing Board code and hospital policies at all times.
* Work within scope of practice, maintain professional standards, and be accountable for practice.
* Provide a caring, efficient, and professional nursing service.
* Respect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
* Coordinate ward management in the absence of the CNM I/CNM II.
* Mentor and support new staff and facilitate their development.
* Participate in duties across anaesthetics, scrub, circulating, PACU, or endoscopy as required.
* Prepare equipment and instruments per patient and consultant needs.
* Assist in updating consultant preference cards and ensure smooth operation of the Endoscopy Unit.
* Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care in the endoscopic room.
* Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team for continuity of care and safety.
* Manage resources effectively within the department.
* Participate in staff education and training.
* Check equipment before use and report faults promptly.
* Follow infection control policies including theatre attire and sterilization procedures.
* Prepare patients for endoscopy under sedation or anesthesia.
* Maintain current knowledge and skills in endoscopy and nursing.
Scrub / Circulating
* Provide nursing care for surgical patients.
* Assist surgeons in procedures.
* Maintain standards in pre- and post-operative care.
* Support patients and families holistically.
* Prepare operating rooms for scheduled procedures.
* Maintain aseptic techniques during surgical procedures.
* Keep controlled drug records according to legal standards.
* Adhere to correct counting procedures in the operating room.
* Supervise and educate less experienced staff.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered in the General Division of the NMBI or eligible for registration.
* Basic Life Support certification.
* At least 2 years of theatre nursing experience.
* Relevant theatre qualification is advantageous.
