Job description
Ireland's largest Courts News agency is seeking a senior journalist to file news copy from court sittings in Dublin City Centre on a full time basis.
News Desk and Court reporting experience essential.
Primary responsibilities:
Composition of tight news copy to broadsheet standard from assigned court sittings.
Quickly file AM reports and flash verdict reports as required.
Liaise with registrars, Courts Service staff, lawyers and other personnel to obtain advance case lists, verify case information and obtain details necessary to ensure total accuracy in copy.
Identify and prioritise the most pertinent, newsworthy stories from advance case lists.
Compose Feature pieces on high profile criminal cases and broader public interest court issues as required.
Assist national and international news correspondents with case information.
Field queries from national and international news desks on copy.
Experience and Skills:
A minimum of three years experience as a news reporter, with experience in court/legal reporting preferred.
Third level qualification in Journalism or related field required.
