The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organization providing age-related residential, educational, and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism, and communication disorders throughout Cork and Kerry.

HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER

Permanent Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Location: Southern Region – Cork/Kerry (based in Cork)
The Role
The primary role of the post holder is to serve as Safety Officer for the Region, leading and coordinating the Health & Safety functions and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in all health, safety, and environmental work practices within the services.
The post holder will be part of a team, working with an expanded team as the services grow, to jointly deliver on safety responsibilities. They will ensure that daily operations reflect the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity Services, participating proactively as a team member and contributing to effective teamwork development.
The Candidate
* Qualification / Skills / Experience
* Possess a relevant third-level qualification at level 7 or above on the QQI framework in Occupational Health and Safety
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role
* Excellent leadership, organizational, motivational, and communication skills
* Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation
* Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and Word, and report writing proficiency
* Driving license and own transport, with the ability to travel as required
The appointed person must provide their own transport and furnish indemnity from insurers in favor of the employer. Travel expenses will be reimbursed at appropriate rates based on the location of the assigned duties.

Health & Character
* Candidates must be fully competent and capable of performing the duties and in good health to render regular and efficient service.
* Candidates must be of good character.
Shortlisting will be based on application forms and CVs, with successful candidates notified for mandatory training sessions such as manual handling and health & safety courses, which are conditions of employment.

Salary Scale
€46,805 to €70,421 (13-point scale + Long Service Increment after 3 years at top scale €72,605). Successful candidates must submit relevant experience evidence within 3 months of starting; failure to do so may delay incremental pay.
Hours of Work
The normal fortnightly hours are 70, with possible flexible or additional hours. Specific start and finish times will be communicated and agreed upon.
