Join us at Lios – creators of a breakthrough material transforming noise reduction. We're building a quieter, greener future by rethinking how sound is managed across industries. Backed by over a decade of acoustic research, our team is scaling a sustainable material with real world impact — from aerospace to home appliances. We're expanding our team as we go to market. If you're curious, driven, and excited by science with purpose, we'd love to hear from you.
We are seeking an Acoustic Engineer to join our talented and growing team at the forefront of innovation in vibro-acoustic solutions.
SoundBounce is a cutting-edge acoustic material designed to save space and address low-frequency noise issues in applications such as automotive, building insulation, household appliances, and other vibro-acoustic systems.
This role is based at Lios' Dublin office, with the option of hybrid working arrangements.
As an Acoustic Engineer, you will contribute to expanding our in-house testing capabilities by developing experimental setups — such as impedance tube testing — and enhancing SoundBounce's performance under real-world conditions via models and simulations. You will also liaise with suppliers to select instrumentation according to requirements and work with external testing partners to coordinate experimental plans.
You will collaborate with customers to measure the noise emitted from their products and optimise sound reduction solutions. To complement this, you will model the products and components to identify the noise source, quantify the noise emitted, and test solutions in a simulated environment using, for example, FEM, BEM, and SEA techniques.
This position requires a strong aptitude for design, problem-solving, and creativity, as you will translate customer specifications into functional prototypes and structured test campaigns.
On-the-job training will be provided to strong candidates who may require up-skilling in specific areas.
What you'll do
* Development of acoustic models to integrate SoundBounce into customers' products and assess the improvement in noise reduction.
* Conduct vibration and acoustic testing:
* Select and purchase instrumentation and components to facilitate the performance of acoustic testing
* Use of equipment including microphones, intensity probe, impedance tube, reverberation chamber, etc.
* R&D testing, parametric studies, study of new and existing product designs
* Sample Quality Control
* Use CAD for new and existing SoundBounce designs
* Design and experimental work on commercial projects
* Creating and testing new applications of SoundBounce in the automotive, home appliances, construction and aerospace sector
* Work on our development project for the European Space Agency
What you'll bring
Expected
* Degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, or related field.
* Proven technical ability in terms of problem-solving and analytical thinking.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of writing scientific reports.
* Skills in calculation, prediction and assessment of acoustic noise.
* Experience undertaking noise and vibration measurement surveys.
* Experience processing data for noise intensity measurements.
* Have the background and experience to quickly become proficient in acoustic modelling (e.g., SEA) and to effectively operate a wide range of measurement instruments.
* Must be confident with acoustic topics related to noise and vibration control, sound absorbing materials, interaction of sound waves and solid structures, sound radiation and isolation, acoustic standards, etc.
Desirable
* Experience in ISO/ASTM test procedures and experimental acoustics.
* Experience in 3D printing and prototype manufacturing.
* Ability to learn new experimental techniques and conduct experiments repeatably to a high standard.
* Ability to work well independently, be a self-starter, and bring new ways of working to the R&D team. Creatively solve problems and take ownership of new projects.
* Ability to manage more than one work stream at a time and good time management skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with internal teams and external partners.
* Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity and open to change and learning.
* Experience of interaction with industrial research projects or experience working in research within an industrial environment is desirable.
Software Skills
Experience or knowledge of the below software list is welcomed:
* MATLAB/Simulink
* COMSOL Multiphysics
* SolidWorks
* VAOne
* LaTeX
