We are currently hiring a Clinical Nurse Specialist-Colorectal & GI Cancer for a leading Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
This is a Permanent/Part-Time Position.
Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate a caseload of patients with colorectal and gastrointestinal cancers, providing specialist nursing care throughout diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
Provide expert education, guidance, and emotional support to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and ongoing care.
Participate in health promotion and awareness initiatives focused on the prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer.
Coordinate and contribute to Colorectal/GI Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, ensuring effective care planning and collaboration across specialties.
Support the assessment, treatment, and follow-up of colorectal/GI cancer patients, including those receiving chemotherapy within the oncology department.
Develop and implement individualised care and treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, based on evidence-based clinical guidelines.
Provide specialist advisory support services, liaising with teams such as the stoma care service to ensure patients receive appropriate education and support.
Independently manage clinical responsibilities, contribute to service development, policy implementation, and maintenance of a safe care environment.
Promote professional development, education, and training, delivering teaching programmes for staff and educational support for patients and families.
Contribute to quality improvement, audit, research, and service evaluation, ensuring high standards of clinical practice, effective communication, accurate documentation, and adherence to governance, data protection, and hospital policies.
Requirements
Hold a valid Registered General Nurse qualification with registration from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (formerly An Bord Altranais).
Possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Oncology Nursing, with a Colorectal Nursing Module considered highly desirable.
Have completed a recognised Stoma Care course with knowledge of stoma surgeries and patient education in stoma management.
Demonstrate a minimum of five years’ post-registration experience in oncology or a related specialist clinical area.
Possess in-depth knowledge of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for colorectal and gastrointestinal malignancies.
Show experience or familiarity with colorectal/GI cancer surgeries and chemotherapy administration within oncology services.
Exhibit excellent communication, organisational, and time management skills to effectively manage patient care.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Possess teaching, research, and clinical education experience, including a course in teaching and assessing in clinical practice.
Show strong IT skills, adaptability, and commitment to service development, with a particular interest in advancing the Colorectal/GI Clinical Nurse Specialist service and maintaining flexible working practices.
