Clinical Nurse Manager I Pre-Assessment

Overview of role:
The CNMI is a key member of the point of care team and leads the clinical management of the Pre-Assessment Unit alongside the CNMIII for Surgical Services. The CNMI upholds UPMC values in the clinical setting, ensuring accessible, world-class care that puts patients first. The post holder will collaborate with the CNMIII, ADON for Surgical Services, and other team members to ensure efficient, effective preoperative patient care and promote a nurse-led service.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical Services in providing high-standard patient care using evidence-based practices.
* Provide professional and clinical leadership to the point of care staff.
* Coordinate, assess, plan, deliver, and review patient care with the team.
* Ensure safe, comprehensive nursing care within NMBI guidelines.
* Collaborate with patients, families, carers, and staff in treatment and care.
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care, supervising other nurses.
* Monitor and evaluate patient care regularly, using hospital quality systems.
* Develop good relationships with patients and carers.
* Work effectively within the multidisciplinary team to promote teamwork and patient care.
* Contribute to the development of department philosophy, objectives, and goals.
* Ensure staff are familiar with equipment use and maintenance.
* Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
The CNM I will:
* Participate in and promote evidence-based practice development.
* Assist in audits and data collection.
* Monitor incidents and follow up with the CNM3 and ADON for Surgical Services.
* Ensure completion of patient satisfaction surveys and adherence to KPIs.
The CNM I will also:
* Supervise, coordinate, and deploy nursing/support staff to ensure optimal care.
* Serve as a senior clinical liaison within the multidisciplinary team.
* Maintain accreditation standards and coordinate related tasks.
* Assist in workforce planning and staffing.
* Manage resources efficiently.
* Lead practice development and support change initiatives using lean methodology.
* Contribute to policy and procedure development at unit and hospital levels.
* Support nursing management and administrative records.
* Orientate new staff and students to the unit.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Registered or eligible for registration with NMBI in the General Division.
* At least three years’ experience as a staff nurse in surgical settings, with one year in pre-assessment preferred.
* Post-registration qualification in preoperative assessment is desirable.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Understanding of HR policies and procedures.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Active participation in hospital quality improvement using lean tools is preferred.
