FT is recruiting an Associate Director/Principal Landscape Architect to join our team to lead and grow an exciting new growth area: landscape design and habitat creation.
The role of Associate Director/Principal Landscape Architect is a senior position involving sector leadership; sector growth; team growth, development and management; project leadership; design; landscape planning (including impact assessments); and client interaction.
The position is suited for someone with extensive experience, professional qualification, and strong technical skills.
FT's Responsibilities What would my main responsibilities be in this role? Project Leadership & Management: Lead and manage complex projects from initial concept through to detailed design, planning, tender, and on-site completion.
This will often include contractual, financial, and programme management.
Design & Documentation: Oversee and produce high quality design work, including graphic representations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, sketches, and detailed construction drawings using software such as Auto CAD, Revit, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Business Development: Lead on business growth through the preparation of bids and tender submissions for new work opportunities and grow the sector within FT.
Landscape Planning & Assessment: Author and coordinate Landscape and Visual Impact Appraisals (LVIA), strategic analysis, and character assessments for a range of projects, including infrastructure, energy developments and urban regeneration.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a primary client contact, presenting proposals, providing design advice, and leading workshops and public consultation events.
Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams (architects, engineers, planners) and mentor junior members of staff, delegating work and fostering their professional development.
Skills / Qualifications Are you the right person for the role? A degree and/or a postgraduate qualification in Landscape Architecture accredited by a recognised body such as the Irish Landscape Institute (ILI) or the Landscape Institute (LI).
Full professional membership and Chartered status with the Irish Landscape Institute (MILI) or equivalent is required A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant post-qualification experience is generally expected, demonstrating a strong track record of project delivery and business development in the sector.
A full, clean driving licence is highly desirable due to the need for site visits.
Excellent design and create flair.
Excellent experience of driving innovation in work practices.
Excellent experience managing a portfolio of projects and clients.
Excellent experience in strategy and business development and driving business growth.
Excellent experience in resource management and participating in recruitment and interview processes.
Excellent technical knowledge of hard and soft landscape construction, materials, detailing, and specification procedures.
Proficiency in key software; Auto CAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, In Design), Sketch Up, and MS Office.
Knowledge of BIM/Revit and GIS is an advantage.
Exceptional written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organisational abilities.
Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment in particular preparation of LVIA.
