Munster Technological University (Cork), incorporates the Bishopstown Campus together with the Crawford College of Art & Design (CCAD), Cork School of Music, 46 Grand Parade and the National Maritime College.
The Buildings & Estates Office (B&E) is responsible for the overall management of the University Estate, including Land and Property Management, Master Planning, Capital Development, Facilities Management, etc.
The Office provides integrated support services related to the physical infrastructure and facilities management of the university.
The university is now seeking applications from candidates for the post of Plumber to serve as part of the B & E Team.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Plumber Craftsperson will carry out maintenance and repair works that are delegated to him/her, in a safe manner.
The Plumber Craftsperson will be able to work on their own initiative or as part of a team.
The craftsperson will be based in the MTU Bishopstown Campus and reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor General Duties and Responsibilities of the post: The Plumbing Craftsperson will: Be a competent, experienced and qualified Plumber.
Have a good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation and be able to work in compliance with MTU Safety procedures and all other relevant Safety Legislation and Standards.
Comply with the work requests of the Helpdesk/Work Order Requests system in an efficient manner.
Direct MTU General Operatives when they are assisting with plumbing tasks.
As a representative of the Buildings & Estates Office, be proactive in reporting any faults/hazards in any discipline or equipment to the Buildings & Estates Office.
Assist in scheduling and planning the safe implementation of plumbing, energy or related maintenance work, small projects and other ad hoc tasks.
Assist with achieving fossil fuel energy efficient targets.
To participate in further training as may be required from time to time.
Co-operate with the changing requirements of the MTU Buildings & Estates Office.
Specific Duties: All plumbing related works including; Attend to the maintenance and repairs of all mechanical services, plant and equipment.
This shall include installation, maintenance/preventative maintenance and repairs of water mains, hydrant, hot and cold-water supplies and associated control pipe work, sanitary/sewerage systems, boiler house and ancillary equipment.
Attend to the operation maintenance and repairs of all equipment including but, not limited to: o Direct Hot water, LPHW boilers & Expansion vessels.
o Piped bottle gases o Building management computer systems (Cylon BMS) o HVAC systems o Pressurisation and pumping systems o Combined heat & power plant.
o Heating distribution systems network o Natural gas systems network o Fuel storage & distribution systems o Assist with Legionella programmes Assist and Promote Energy and water efficient projects Carry out planned preventative maintenance programmes, equipment checks, inspections and plant operational and performance log readings as set out by the B & E Office Carry out the duties as designated under the HTM standards for competent persons.
Participate in the support of new development projects as required.
Arrange to have repairs and maintenance carried out by manufacturers or agents in cases where they cannot be carried out locally.
Provide hands-on technical assistance in the resolution of plant and control systems failures.
Maintain records of all servicing carried out in their area of responsibility including Handover Documents, Certification, O & M Manuals etc.
Assist in the organisation of the system of routine maintenance for all plant and equipment.
Test and maintain log sheets on mechanical equipment as required.
Liaise and supervise outside contractors, as required and prepare snag lists.
Be accountable for all tools, stock or equipment under his/her control and ensure that all such equipment is kept in the proper state of repair in accordance with safety standards.
Maintain a CIT equipment register.
Be required to complete any appropriate records and reports relating to their work.
This shall include but not be limited to computerised systems, planned preventative maintenance systems, building management systems and any new technology introduced by CIT.
This shall include but not be limited to palm top devices, tablet computers, laptop computers.
Comply with and work all policies and procedures of CIT and be fully compliant with all Health and safety legislation, policies and guidance documents.
Co-operate in the introduction of any new techniques, methods, systems, and equipment required by management for increasing the efficiency or productivity of the maintenance service, and shall co-operate with consultants / advisors, and with persons appointed to study the techniques, methods, systems or equipment in operation in the maintenance service.
Exhibit a willingness to extend his/her range of experience and training to encompass the changing requirements of the post Note: As MTU continues to expand and evolve, it is likely that flexibility in regard to the allocation of specific duties will be necessary.
Accordingly, the list of duties specified above is not intended to be exclusive or restrictive; duties may be added or withdrawn but any such alteration will take place only within the remit of the Head of Function, as outlined, and after consultation with the appointee.
Qualifications & Requirements for the position: Essential: ? Be able to demonstrate the ability to carry out the duties and responsibilities as detailed above.
? Have a recognised National Craft Certificate or equivalent in plumbing ? Have a minimum of 6 years current plumbing craft experience in a large-scale facilities maintenance environment.
? Have a good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation.
? Hold a current Safe Pass Card ? Have good communication skills.
? Be able to work on his/her own initiative and to enthusiastically deliver a prompt, customer focused service.
? Be flexible enough to adapt to new challenges as they arise.
Desirable: ? Be computer literate ? Gas Installer Safety to Standards I.
S 813 and I.
S 820 ? OFTEC 101 Oil Firing Appliance Service Technician ? Legionella Awareness Training.
