We are currently hiring an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate/Senior level, depending on experience) for our Kilkenny Head Office. The role initially requires working in the office for the first 6 months, with potential for hybrid working thereafter, subject to agreement.
Key Responsibilities
* Design Mechanical Services for buildings in sectors such as Education, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial & Retail, including HVAC, Water, Soils & Wastes, Gas, and Building Automation Systems, complying with current standards.
* Demonstrate strong technical ability in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering & Design.
* Create detailed layouts, schematics, and calculations, ensuring standards and project goals are met.
* Address technical challenges independently to find optimal solutions.
* Collaborate with clients and project engineers to define requirements and develop technical solutions.
* Develop and agree on design processes and deliverables.
* Produce accurate budget estimates, assess contractor claims, and manage variations.
* Maintain project documentation per ISO standards.
* Participate in QA audits, peer reviews, and workshops to improve mechanical solutions.
* Stay updated on design trends through seminars, CPDs, and exhibitions.
* Conduct site inspections, prepare reports, source budgets, and provide data to teams.
* Review submittals for compliance with project objectives.
* Monitor project timelines and budgets to ensure timely delivery.
* Lead design aspects of projects, including technical queries, development, coordination, and revisions.
* Mentor junior and intermediate engineers as appropriate.
* Assist with tender bids, including technical reports and budget estimates.
* Report to senior management on project performance.
Key Requirements
* Level 7 Degree/Diploma in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
* Ideally 5+ years' experience in design within an engineering consultancy.
* Proven mechanical engineering design experience.
* Ability to lead and deliver projects per regulations and standards.
* Effective team and independent working skills.
* Experience in client-facing roles.
* Strong communication and presentation skills.
* Uphold ethics and company values, demonstrating integrity and reliability.
* Knowledge of mechanical systems including soils & waste, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning, and environmental designs per Irish regulations.
* Experience with ISO standards and project scopes.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Magicad, and 3D energy modeling tools like IES (preferred).
* Proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Knowledge of current design guides, regulations, and standards.
* Full clean European driver’s license or in the process of obtaining one.
* Right to work in Ireland for EU/EEA nationals, or valid permission for non-EU/EEA nationals.
