Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Utility Surveyor
to support major infrastructure and construction projects, delivering high-accuracy underground utility detection and mapping alongside land survey services.
This role requires strong technical capability across
GPR and electromagnetic detection
, site control, traffic management coordination, and safe working practices within live environments.
You will play a critical role in reducing construction risk, enabling safe excavation, and supporting project delivery teams with accurate, compliant survey data.
Key Responsibilities
Utility & Geophysical Surveying
Scope, quote and win Utility survey contracts.
Undertake underground utility surveys using:
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
Electromagnetic locators
GPS / Total Station systems
Detect, trace and map buried services including:
Power
Gas
Water
Telecoms
Drainage
Produce high-quality utility drawings and records in line with PAS 128 or equivalent standards.
Land & Engineering Surveying
Carry out topographical and measured building surveys.
Support engineering teams with accurate site data.
Deliver surveys in CAD formats (AutoCAD / Civil 3D or similar).
Site Safety & Traffic Management
Implement and supervise
signing, lighting and guarding
(SLG).
Support
Traffic Management Plan (TMP)
implementation in live environments.
Coordinate safe working zones around highways, urban areas and active construction sites.
Ensure compliance with RAMS, permits, and local authority requirements.
Prepare survey reports and utility detection outputs.
Maintain accurate site records and photographs.
Liaise with project managers, engineers and clients.
Participate in toolbox talks and site briefings.
Utility surveying
GPR and electromagnetic detection
Land / topographical surveying
Knowledge of industry standards such as
PAS 128
.
Experience implementing:
Signing, lighting & guarding
Traffic Management Plans
Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and site procedures.
Competent with:
GPS and Total Station equipment
CAD software
Full UK/EU driving licence.
Ability to work independently on live construction sites.
Desirable / Advantageous
Safe pass and manual handling.
SLG Traffic Management certification.
Experience on:
Highways
Data centre developments
Major civils / utilities frameworks
Infrastructure corridors
