Controls & Automation Engineer Our Client is a well-funded, high-tech, start-up, that is leveraging patented IP in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light source design, to build a unique lab-scale soft x-ray imaging microscope. With the launch of its first-generation product in 2023, it is targeting a large niche global market of disease and drug research organisations that is estimated to grow to €1 billion in annual revenues within ten years. Since its formation in 2015, our client has won numerous national and EU awards for its technology and business proposition. It is seeking to grow its organisation with the recruitment of agile and hard-working staff who have the ambition to grow their careers as the company grows. The microscope produces tomograms of frozen biological cells providing information on the internal structure of the cell, which is critical in the understanding of disease causation and in the development of effective therapies and vaccines. At the hearth of the technology is a very small laser produced plasma which produces the soft X-rays and allows them to be efficiently coupled to the microscope. The Control Engineer will join the development team, based in Dublin. The role will involve the continuous development of the control interface to a complex microscope comprising of ~30 axis of motion with accuracy ranging from nm to mm, vacuum control, temperature monitoring, multiple camera interfaces and digital and analogue IO. The position will report into the companys Hardware Controls Manager and the ideal candidate will be a multidisciplinary team player with a 'hands on' and dynamic attitude. The role will involve: Instrumentation integration. Bench testing components. System documentation. Experimental design and set-up. System construction and testing. System debugging and troubleshooting. Light data analysis. Selection Criteria The applicant should have at least three years experience in the role of controls engineer, automation engineer, systems engineer or related disciplines. Applicants will also be assessed on the basis of how well they satisfy the required knowledge and experience criteria, which are summarised as: Important: Experience wiring and testing instrumentation. Strong problem solving abilities. Hands-on experience with complex systems. Strong communication skills. Desirable: PLCs. Motion Control. Microcontroller experience. LabVIEW. Solidworks Electrical.
